Guest guest
A good place to start is to get a good book. I always recommend "Little Herb Encyclopedia" by Jack Richason, N.D. This book is very easy to use and has the herbs listed in alphabetical order and an explanation of the conditions that it treats and also a list of conditions follows with the conditions that it is best used for in bold type. There is also a chapter on herb combinations. Chapters on Liquid Extracts, Single Chinese Herbs, Chinese Herbal Combinations, Glossary Terms, Bibliography, and an Index. It is easy to use and contains much useful information. If I have not used an herb before and it is in a combination, I try it by itself to see if it agrees with me or the person that will be using the combination. As time goes on you will come to favor certain herbs over others and will use them more often. Learning to deep your family healthy with herbs and nutrition is a grand adventure. I have raised 7 children and and a number of grandchildren and now have 3 great grandchildren, one of whom I am raising now and they all take their herb teas and tinctures with no problem. We rarely see a Doctor and if that is necessary, I question the advice they give. for example I figured out that my grand daughter was allergic to food coloring after her mother gave her a bag of cookies that had colored frosting and sprinkles, her mouth swelled up and her mouth looked like a duck bill. She developed a fever and was nauseated. Her mother took her to emergency where the Doctor prescribed antibiotics WITH FOOD COLORING after I told him she was allergic to the food coloring and that is why she was there. Her mother gave it to her and she went back to emergency very ill. I asked him if he could prescribe something w/o food coloring and he said all the childrens medicine had food coloring, so I asked for an adult prescription instead. I would not have given any antibiotic to her but her mother does not believe in herbs, so my grand daughter had to go through all that misery. Since I raised the child before her mother got involved, I knew what foods she normally ate, so spotting the cause was not hard. Since that day, I am still raising the child, who is a teenager now. She has learned to eat healthy food and to rely on herbs for all her ailments. She is healthy. Your children will also learn how to keep themselves healthy.
