Guest guest
My 5 year old grand daughter woke up for school on Friday morning. She was throwing up and appeared to have a flew or virus. In a few hours the symptoms worsened to diarria - fever - and abdominal bloating. My daughter took her to her pediatrician. The pede said to immediately go to Texas Children's E R as it showed "textbook" symptoms of a rupturing appendix. NOT THE CASE Many tests - an IV etc......... ruled out appendi... and suspicion of a "very aggressive bacteria" was the culprit. Keeping her for observation overnight. Questions were ask. Discovery: There is a family of survivors from New Orleans that had visited their church on Sunday. There are students in the Deer Park school and in fact her class from New Orleans.. The bacteria was blamed on contact with "victims arriving Houston area via the disaster in New Orleans." Stating this bacteria could be on the door knob at the entrance to any retailer , restaurant , the shopping basket at Wal-Mart or "ANY" public shared area. The bacteria causing the infection was said to be (not sure of the spelling) "Shigella". My grand daughter was released today and has recovered from the fever, vomiting , elevated white blood cell count ( was 21) and seems to be getting better. I share this to: 1. Invite any and all feedback is welcomed. 2. Wash hands OFTEN We understand that the pede did exactly the right thing. And we are thankful it was not a ruptured app. We are just wondering - How much of this is out there ?
