I suffer from bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, and

panic disorder. My problem is that I don't have any health insurance,

and the government run mental health agency for my area is a joke.

The waiting list to be seen is at least 6 months long! I recently had

a baby in April, and I fear that PPD is also a culprit to my problems

lately. Can anyone suggest any natural or herbal remedies to me? I

thought about St. John's Wort...but that can lead to manic episodes in

people with BPD. I have heard some buzz about fish oil. Thanks!

Hi Kristina,

You need to start improving your diet and lifestyle. This would include going organic, cutting out all processed refined foods, eating nothing with additives, cutting out or at least seriously reducing your sugar intake. Start taking Total Nutrition to get your body the vital nutrients it needs and it will also start your body healing itself. Get more sun and fresh air; go for walks outside. Inspect your environment for negative people around you, and get rid of them (out of your space I mean LOL).

As far as immediate help is concerned, Lobelia would help you. But this would be a Band-Aid if you do not improve your diet and lifestyle as above, and does not CURE the problem.

Once you've improved your diet and lifestyle, do a Total Body Cleanse to get rid of the toxins in your body.

love

Kristina,

My heart goes out to you, as I suffer from very similar things, and I

have not had health insurance for 3 years. Our situation was so bad we

didn't even have $ to buy herbal remedies & such, so I finally applied to

state funded health for myself and my children and were recently

approved.

I don't know what state you are in, but my state has a special health

insurance called Healthy Families for the people who make too much for

the full state funded insurance. Does your state have something like

that?

If your mental health agency is your only option, it may be worth it to

apply even if you have to wait, especially if you are at a point where

you are not functioning at a good level to take care of basic needs for

you and your family. (That is where I am at, so I am willing to try

medication on a temporary basis.) And in the meantime try to make all

the changes you can make from a natural standpoint. If you end up not

needing the mental health care after all, then that would be a good

thing.

So for now, I guess you would want to try to find herbal relief for the

problems you face. I have read that lithium orotate can be helpful for

bipolar & depression (it is a type of natural salt, from what I

understand). Also, for panic, I have used Kava Kava, and Passion Flower.

They have helped me. You may want to try doing searches on these and

see what you find. Also, Bach Flower Remedies (especially Rescue Remedy)

may be helpful for you at times when you feel really panicky and fearful.

I have had PPD really bad too, with each of my dc. I think I have read

that people w/ PPD also have bad PMS. Do you? I sure do! I have been

trying to take measures to try remedies & other ideas to relieve pms as

much as possible too. Of course, you may be limited if you are nursing

your baby. If you are, you may want to check with La Leche Leage to see

if they have information about what is safe while nursing. Some things I

have been doing for PMS is using natural progesterone cream, and taking

Vitex (chasteberry), and I have plans to try Evening Primrose Oil and

flaxseed oil as finances allow. There are recipes in the files for

herbal remedies for women's problems that you may want to check out.

Also, the Doc sells them already made, apparently, though I haven't tried

these yet myself.

The oils like the fish oils, (omega 3 fatty acids) are supposed to help

with neurotransmitters working properly, if I remember correctly. I am

taking some of that right now too.

Also, drinking plenty of water, exercising, and eating right will help,

of course. Caffiene (I have cut out all coffee, though I still drink

some tea), sugar, refined carbohydrates and dairy are supposed to make

PMS worse. I personally am trying to work toward a more raw & organic

vegetable diet.

It is my personal opinion that at least some of the 'root' causes of

things like depression are due to things like 'stuffing' our emotions

internally from trauma or abuse in the past. If those are some of your

situations, I believe you will have to eventually address them and

process them properly to receive total healing.

Anyhoo, I sympathize with you, and I pray you find the help and relief

and healing you are seeking. :o)

Love,

Erica

Dear Kristina,

Not to be unkind or impatient with someone new to Natural Healing, but you need to rethink your problems in a new light and from a different angle, in order to find a permanent resolution using alternative methods.

#1. There are no such diseases as BiPolar Disorder; Borderline Personality Disorder, and Panic Disorder. There is not one shred of scientific proof that such diseases exist. "BUT WAIT A MINUTE!!!", you say. "THESE SYMPTOMS I'M EXPERIENCING ARE REAL!!!!!!!!!!!", and you are absolutely correct in that observation. The symptoms are real, the diseases are not. The symtoms that these bogus diseases are supposed to represent, are true physical reactions to malnutrition and an unhealthy lifestyle. AS MENTAL DISORDERS, THEY ARE FALSE!!!! You have been labelled as a mental patient and you are not.

#2. Health Insurance, and the Government run Mental Health Agencies are not only both jokes, but unnecessary, and in reality you're lucky the waiting list is sooooo long for it'll give you a chance to handle these very real symptoms, naturally and with you being "CAUSE" over your own life rather than placing it into the hands of the Medicos who'll ultimately kill you.

#3. Just observing the Psych terminology you're using leads me to believe you have some serious "unlearning" to do in the field of "Mental Health". Your asking about St. John's Wort and fish oil are also indicators of the method of healing you've been subjected to which is false. The entire concept of using one ingredient to handle a condition is allopathic and not true. Hopefully, you'll learn here on Herbal Remedies, that symptoms are nothing more than indicators of non-optimum conditions in the body that point to an underlying out-of-balance state of one or more organs that need only to be corrected.

You need to find out what you are doing that you shouldn't be doing. And you need to do those things you should be doing but aren't. Between those two points lies all body problems of a chronic nature you have.

Your resolution to these problems lies in handling:

a. Toxic food and toxic drink intake. Malnutrition.

b. Toxin removal = Cleansing.

c. Toxic environment.

d. Toxic relationships.

e. No Nutrition. Not just bad as above, but no good stuff going in.

f. Stress from any of the above.

The above list is most likely not complete, but were you to address just those 6, you'd most likely find a permanent healing.

Hope this helps.

In Health and Love,

Doc
