HEllo,

I am just going to jump in and say what I need help with.

My 10 year old daughter seen a disturbing image on tv and now she can't get it

out of her mind. She worries it will happen to her. Usually 1 an hour she will

let me know that she is thinking about it and can't quit. It has been over a

month now and I don't think it is getting any better. I have reassured her that

it won't happen and that god will protect her. Is there an herb I can give her

for quick relief of the anxiety she is having, until this passes?

thx in advance

Sharon

Bach's Rescue Remedy worked for my "tender hearted" 10 year old daughter. Shoot...it works for me when I get all hyper :-0.

We are also very religious folks (or spiritual or whatever one may wish to call it) and we pray for "protection from all harm".

Works great for us anyways :-).

My other recommendation is to toss the tv....the dang this is downright evil and mind numbing.

YET...I still have mine....(um, er..my husband is rather attached to it...although he's down to just the news and an occasional ball game ;-).

BUT...just ONE disturbing image can stick with a child. Oh, gosh..I think I feel that urge to chuck the tv out the front door overcoming me ... LOL.

Peace, Health and we'll say a prayer for your daughter...

Wendy

Sharon,

For a ten -year -old I would proceed with caution with any application of choice.

Herbal remedy dosage goes by weight. Child dosage is as follows:

1/3 dose for children 6-10 years; 1/2 dose for children 10-14 years.

Aromatherapy can help right away -lavender or ylang-ylang oil on the temples, chamomile or rose oil, aromas of apples and cinnamon.

Wild lettuce-valerian extract in water, passion flower, skullcap and chamomile teas are effective.

Be Blessed in the right use of Knowledge...JOYintheMorning...

I have bad news, Sharon. I am like your daughter. Things like that stick in me and re-play in my mind over and over. I obsess. The only relief is talking about the "what-ifs" --It is the only way I can get things to go away.

I "what -if" it to the end. What if the movie came true? what if the bad man were after me? What if I didN'T wear high heels and break a heel or twist my ankle? Well, likely as not, it wouldn't happen to me. Anyway, start at the first fear, answer to the what if, and ask the next one till there is nothing left to worry about. Then continually remind daughter that it won't happen. What if it to the end (Dr. Phil trick)

I, for one, don't like television. We have a television in our house with no antenna and no satellite connection.. I have All in the Family (I love Archie Bunker--he tickles my funny bone) on tape and I will watch it this winter when I get the blues because I am cold and indoors. Also for Billy Blanks Tae-Bo! My son has The Dukes of Hazzard, the old ones, on DVD, and he is allowed to watch one episode each day while I use my stepper. The easiest way to prevent your daughter from having this problem is to get rid of the tv. Television is all about violence and sex.

My husband use to get discouraged because I internalize things. Then one day he realized that the way I am is just who I am, and likely as not it is also the reason we are together. So you can't change how people interpret things, but just work through them. Some times facing our fears can make our fears become smaller and we feel bigger. WE are more powerful than any imagined fear--if we choose to be.

"I will not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little death that leads downward into destruction.

I will face my fear. I will let it pass over me and through me.

And when it has passed, I will turn, look into its face, and LAUGH"...Frank Herbert's Dune.

This is taped to my bathroom mirror, to my computer monitor, and on an index card (several) that I use for bookmarks.

It is the way I can breathe and move forward with my irrational self. L

I second the bach flower remedies, though rescue remedy is good, it is not the

only one there is. i think white chestnut might be more appropriate to this

instance.

Howdy Sharon,

As a former borderline-OCD sufferer myself, who is also extremely

sensitive to images in books and on TV, to the point where years later

they still sort of wreak some havoc on me sometimes, this almost

sounds like a disruption in the neurotransmitters (brain chemicals)

responsible for mood: primarily, dopamine, norepinephrine, and

serotonin. I strongly suggest picking up a copy of the book

" Prescription for Nutritional Healing " by Phyllis Balch, the bulk of

which consists of common conditions, A-to-Z. The whole family of

brain chemical dysfunctions/imbalances can be found: ADD/OCD/clinical

depression, on up to the more serious afflictions. This book arms you

with the information about what the condition IS, what causes it, and

what you can do NATURALLY to help it.

In Ayurvedic terms (the natural medicinal system of India, which I

have recently stumbled onto and have found to be increasingly valid

the more I reserach it), your daughter has an imbalanced Vata

condition. Vata is the air element in the body, and imbalanced or

excessive Vata can lead to nervous disorders, overactive mind,

depression, etc. The cluster of disorders mentioned in the above

paragraph, sounds like a Vata condition. In this case, books like

" Ayurveda: A Life of Balance " by Maya Tiwari would be VERY helpful.

This is a lady who CURED herself--no joke, I'm not flaking out here--f

TERMINAL cancer. She is an extremely knowledgeable in Ayurvedic

nutrition. This is a fantastic book.

Hope that helps! Good luck :)

Blessings,

--Jeni-Laura

That book is by my side constantly. Even in my studies, I refer to it

instead of my textbook. " Prescription for Nutritional Healing " by

Phyllis Balch is one of the best resource books I have ever gained.

Hello Jeni-Laura,

Please note that there is absolutely NO proof that ADD/OCD/Clinical Depression exist as "diseases" nor that there is any such thing as a "chemical imbalance/dysfunction!!!!

I'm not saying that the SYMPTOMS are not there, just that these symptoms are NOT a CAUSE in themselves, but just SYMPTOMS!!! As with all ailments, there is absolutely NO point in dealing with the symptoms; one needs to find the CAUSE of the ailment, and deal with THAT.

Dear Sharon,

If I were in that position, I'd get her to talk all about it. It must be a complete "two way" communication with you acknowledging all of her originations. You need to get all of her thoughts on the subject and get her to dissect it.

What was this image?????? It is awful difficult to advise any further on this without that piece of information.

Absolutely! A good sit-down-talk-it-out is the way to go here. But let your daughter get it all out without any evaluation or invalidation on your part (do not tell her that her fears are silly or anything like that as this could invalidate her "ideas" as to the way things are). Also, let her know that YOU will protect her, and be there for her if and when she needs you.

Right on with the TV!!!! I don't eat garbage! Why should I allow it in my mind???

A great quote Flo, from one of my all time favorite sci-fi authors.

I know that the Back Tech works for some, so I have to acknowledge it. On the other hand, I for one have never had it work for me under any circumstances. The same goes for homeopathics. I know it works for some people and many people swear by it. Neither one have EVER worked on me personally and believe me I've researched them to the hilt.

Kinda like having a baby. I've delivered them, but still don't have the subjective reality on what it's like.

This is just the way I am with Homeopathics and Bach. However, I know of no one who isn't affected positively with Herbal Remedies which is why I chose that modality when I decided to get into healing.

Not to be critical, but just my two cents.
