Natural Wood Finishes

Hello:

I asked a question about products to finish hardwood

floors about a month ago and someone has recommended a

company called Bioshield. Has anybody had experience

with their linseed oil (3=#5) and wax (#30) that you

apply on unfinished wood?

Thank you.

Hello, i used linseed oil on oak flooring 12 years

ago, it still looks awwwsome and the nice part i never

have to polish it.

It took me a long time to apply it though, i did

applocations in 20 % increments mixed with

laquerthinner, so the first applocation was 20%

linseed oil and 80% laquerthinner, than

60-40/40-60/20-80/100 .

Dear Konstantin,

I have been a painter, faux painter for over 30 years now & have used

linseed oil before in a damp & high humidity climate. To my dismay, it

mildewed & molded

up causing more of a problem than a solution. If you are in a dry climate

or controlled environment on the inside you may be OK. I have found the

water base finishes to be good. I, however, am not an expert on the

toxicity factor of the various finishes available today.

Thanks. Have you used wax to put on top of the oil? I

wonder how long it took for your floors to dry

completely and how long it took for smell to go away.

Thanks

I never waxed it, just dusted and damp mopped it thats

all, it took a while for the smell to go away, and to

harden, depends on the weather, i think i let mine dry

4 to 5 days, no mold, no mildew or anything, and the

colour is very nice too.

With a rag, remember the first coating will be

absorbed real fast and all other coats have to be

applied while semi wet so the oak can absorb all of it

If you think one's health consists ONLY of herbal remedies, you have a very limited view of life and health. Natural healing concerns ALL of our living choices. Naturopathy is holistic in scope. Natural healing would include any life style changes which enhance/heal the health of the people concerned. Decorating one's house with natural products would enhance the health of the persons living in that house, and so is definitely an on topic discussion on this list.

Why are you so concerned with this anyhow?
