Guest guest
Hi All, I really would like to lose some weight as I think this is my issue of tiredness, I do have iron and thyroid issues that are under control with meds but would like to lose at least 15 - 20 Kgs, any ideas would be greatful. Another thing is that I work 3 evening shifts (which one involves working a morning and evening shift on the same day) and I work an afternoon shift so my meals can be erratic and as for fasting I am not quite sure that at this stage I could as I work 6 - 7 hours without a real break as I work on my own in a convenience store. I am also an lacto-ovo vegetarian that eats fish. Guest guest
Hello Peta, I've been on a vegan diet for about a month now, and am steadily losing weight. Make sure it's organic as much as possible. If you want to take it a step further, you should try raw organic food as much as possible. Possibly your weight issues are connected to your thyroid problems? If so, you may just need to do the Total Body Cleanse - see the files for full information on this. love Lisa - Peta Celleste herbal remedies Sunday, August 14, 2005 9:47 AM Herbal Remedies - Want to Lose Weight - any suggestions? Guest guest
Hi Elrick, I use Doc's Total Nutrition formula in the mornings, which gives me all the proteins and amino acids I need. I would really recommend this to anyone, especially those who want to go vegan. I don't just eat vegetables and fruit; I also eat nuts, and seeds, etc. (sprouted of course). Doc's wife, Valorie Shillington, has a raw food "cook" book for sale. There are also some great websites out there with delicious recipes for raw and vegan foods. There's just sooo much you can do with it, while ensuring you get all the nutrients you need. love Lisa - elrick penn herbal remedies Monday, August 15, 2005 4:27 PM Re: Herbal Remedies - Want to Lose Weight - any suggestions? Guest guest
I found that there are a few different causes for being overweight. Most have to do with too much toxicity. Some primary reasons for excessive toxins in the body include consuming foods with preservatives, artificial flavorings, flavor enhancers, colorings, etc in them, pollutants in air or water, excessively elevated hormones from stress or anger, etc. Kidneys, liver, colon, digestion, or respiration may not be efficient. Lymph system may be clogged. Cleanse, combine food properly, get manual lymphatic drainage from a licensed massage therapist, etc to help with detox. Often, a chronic health ailment involves not one single cause, and therefore not a simple fix, but a multitude or pattern of causes (and therefore a complete lifestyle change). This may sound scary and overwhelming and not-fun, but the truth is the contrary. The Total Nutrition is good, and cleansing is good, but it's not everything, because what good is a cleanse if you simply re-pollute your system? Besides, there are some types who react badly to garlic (I am one, it inflames my eczema horribly, and it's NOT a case of it-gets-worse-before-it-gets-better). So, I've had to do other things. What I have found works for me, is this: I stopped shopping at conventional grocery stores. If it's within your means and your driving distance, shop at a health food store. If you eat meat, make SURE it's organic. Instead of snacking on sweet and salty foods, substitute fruits and vegetables. Bitter foods are particularly detoxing, so burdock root (usually most freely available in capsule form) and dandelion greens (available in capsule form but try to get the greens and mix them with lettuce and organic dressing for a salad) are especially good. Instead of refined grains, substitute whole grains, preferably sprouted. There are sprouted whole grain breads available, and they're quite tasty. Cut out anything with dyes (for example, FD & C colors), MSG (flavor enhancer that's rather toxic), BHT (toxic preservative), high fructose corn syrup (usually toxic refined sugar from genetically- modified corn), etc. Anything you can't pronounce, don't eat. If the labels are a mile long or read like a chemistry lab manual, don't put it in your body. Remember: garbage in, garbage out. Cook with the stove instead of the microwave. Don't overcook your food. When you do veggies, eat them raw or lightly steam them. If you're hooked up to city water, it's rather imperative that you get some kind of distiller or reverse osmosis machine. We have the latter. It has the best filters you can think of, it requires that they be changed only once a year, and it runs on water pressure alone, so there's no electricity consumption. It costs next to nothing after the initial purchase and a filter a year. And the water is HEAVEN.... The key is BALANCE. Your body must be in balance in order to function correctly; healthcare professionals call this " homeostasis " and generally define a state of health by that term. So, balance your life. Eat a balanced diet. Think clean, healthy, detoxed, and full of life. Weight loss shouldn't be your goal, HEALTH should be. For when you're healthy, your body will balance and it will stabilize itself and any excess weight will simply disappear, for your body will be functioning properly. This is a gradual process. You'll not lose 10 lbs in a week. I lost 20-25 lbs over the period of 4 months...and that was almost 3 years ago, and I've been stable ever since. But that was not my goal at the time. My goal was health, and weight stabilization was simply a by-product. And don't try to lose more than your body will naturally shed. Be realistic. I sit at 128 (i'm a 5'6 " female). Will I ever be 110-115? No. Should I try to get there? No, because I'd sacrifice my health to get there. So take it slow. Don't try to make ALL these changes overnight. Implement them slowly, as YOU are ready. Be patient with yourself. Set long and short term goals. Don't be afraid to have a little chocolate or go out to a fish fry or BBQ every once in a while with friends who do NOT eat organic. It's OK to do that every so often. Make it a change toward a healthier life, and make it fun. See the value in the journey, and use it as an opportunity to learn, grow, explore, and heal. You have it in your power to do so. I know so many people who seek herbal/alternative " medicines " , but all they really want is some kind of " natural " pill or tincture that will " cure " them of whatever symptom they have.... like they are some kind of chemical pharmaceutical that covers up symptoms. They don't want to make any lifestyle changes...just take a pill/tincture and go on re-polluting themselves, wondering why they don't really get any better. They don't want to put forth any EFFORT or make any changes or sacrifices, because that is too hard and it often requires thought! They continue eating processed foods full of chemical sweeteners/colors/flavors/preservatives, and meats/dairy/eggs full of steroids/hormones/antibiotics. They continue to use toxic chemical laundry and household cleaners, and apply all those chemicals to their skin/scalp in their soaps/shampoos/deodorants/cosmetics. They use chemical fertilizers/pesticides/herbicides on their lawns, and use cookware that releases toxic fumes, take various chemical pharmaceuticals, and drink polluted water. There is no " magic " herbal pill/tincture that is gonna " fix " all of that. True healing requires removing/eliminating as much of the toxic exposures as possible in today's world, and using the herbs/supplements as a " support system " for the healing process.
