I had been suffering from panic attacks and depression starting about

10 yrs ago. I would like to go off of antidepressants but whenever I

try to it doesn't seem to work and the dr just puts me on a higher

dose of antidepressant. I am now on prozac and would like to start

weening myself off of it and take something natural instead. Is there

a safe way to go from perscription to natural?

I'm no expert, but when I weaned myself off of Prozac, I took the

amino acid L-Tyrosine along with a B-complex vitamin. A lot of the B

vitamins are natural anti-depressants and so is L-Tyrosine.

I could really tell a difference when I would forget to take it.

Also, I did a stretching routine with light weights...sort of like

Yoga. It calmed me down and helped me to get a good nights rest.

Hi Lisa, There have been many discussions on this in the past, so you

might want to browse through the archives too. Lots of info on herbs

that people took, etc.

Best,

Kelli

If you google B6 you will find it has the same effect as Prozac except

no side effects, however if you take too much it will kill the nerves in

your hands and feet so about 50mg a day is all you need

I went off, tapered off Prozac over a period of a few months. Then I

substituted with natural herbs and what not. Valerian, B6, sam-e, kava-

kava, good vitamins and minerals, good healthy green foods, just to

name a few. Do a search on this list and see some past answers to

this. For sure you need to know your body and know that you will feel

some side effects of withdrawl even if you go very , very slow off of

them. But if you taper off slowly it will NOT be bad at all. Do a

search on withdrawal side effect so you can know what to expect and

will know that it is a withdrawal symptom and not a old panic attack

coming back or depression setting in. It will most likely all be

withdrawal symptoms. I too had panic attacks and when I educated

myself on what my body was going through I knew it was from the meds

and not the attacks coming back. Just search, and ask, and read your

body signs and you will be fine. Each person is different, just know

you can do this and you can do it the healthy less painful way and

come out feeling better than ever.

If you need more info on how I came off and how I have been since

email me off the list.

Samantha
