Guest guest
I've been running like a lunatic with my upcoming fund raiser... sewing machine, Janine, I have a Kenmore and it's just fine. Sews denim. Don't know about the material you're sewing in particular. Wasn't a top of the line model...cost around $200 on sale I think. Cheryl, there is a product called something like Stiff Stuff. It is used on material in particular. You basically coat your material in it, it is not a thick-heavy substance. When it dries your material is stiff. You could do that to whatever batting you use on your item. The interior would make your item stiff/firm, the exterior would still be your 'soft' material. Dale - Cheryl Smith Saturday, November 22, 2003 5:56 AM OT: Sewing question Hi Everyone, If you are making something that you want stiff, what do you use? I know I can buy a wrist pad for in front of my keyboard but I want to make one and I want the bottom stiff without using wood, cardboard or anything other than fabric. Would just interfacing work? Ribbing it maybe? Guest guest
There are a couple of ways of doing it that I know of. Interfacing is one and stiffy stuff is the other. You can make it as hard as you want with the iron on interfacing. The stiffy stuff makes it rock hard. Linda - Hi Everyone, If you are making something that you want stiff, what do you use? Guest guest
Gosh Cheryl! There's a Michael's up there? How long has it been there? How about putting the batting in the stiffening stuff, [Arleene's is the one I have] and hot gluing it to the board or whatever you're using, [cause I think it might be hard to sew on] and then fabric on top? Or felt or fleece on top? if someone else suggested that I apologize. it's early. I'm going back to bed now. We may be one of the very last frontiers but we are civilized! Michael's has been up here for about 8+ years. My thought is to stiffen the fabric, fill a " pouch " with flax seed or buckwheat hulls and hot glue that to the stiffened fabric. Don't know if it will work or not but will keep experiementing.
