Guest guest
Hi all: Does anyone on list here know what plant it is that discourages gophers and moles? I have the funniest looking pasture for a front yard I've ever seen. We can actually watch them hard at their work during any part of the day here. I would love to plant these plants that they don't like all around my garden and in it as well. It's that or build an acre of raised gardens, LOL. Any help is deeply appreciated, believe me ! Guest guest
Jenn, it's called 'the gopher plant' and any nursery up there should have it. But you won't be likely to find it in winter. There is one plant called Gopher Spurge but Castor Oil plant should work. What I do in my greenhouse is mix up a few ounces of castor oil with same amount of liq soap and add them to a gallon or two of warm water and pour it around stuff. I do this in my center bed (in the gh) and also in my raised beds in the yard. Seems to be a big help but you have to redo it every once in a while when you start seeing activity again or just do it every month or whatever you feel is good. Guest guest
Thank you, thank you. I'll give it a try. They are all over the place here and are so cute I can't bring myself to kill any of them. Now my landlord, that's another story. I can't stand to watch them out there with their baseball bats and guns. Jenn - Earthfinds Friday, November 21, 2003 2:36 PM RE: Gopher plants ? AKA - Castor Beans. Guest guest
Thank you Neysa. You ought to see these little guys at work ! You probably already have and they are the cutest, most industrious little things I've seen in a long time. We just got home and it was dark out here, like black outside. We saw a small doe running to the right of us and darned if she didn't follow us all the way to the gate where we open and turn in. I guess we have one here that was born under one of the trees at the front of the property and returns each year to have twins every time. They know they are safe from the hunters on the property so they are always here. I sure enjoy seeing them every day. Thank you for the help.
