The fly doesn't do any damage to the ecosystem, that was the finding of the tests, besides the fact it decapitates the ants.http://member.newsguy.com/~herblady

Guest guest
Hopefully it won't be an experiment gone awry! You know...like love bugs. Hey, Chris -- here's some news to make you feel better, to take your mind off the tooth woes: It was announced in the Florida papers today that they have successfully tested a fly that kills fireants. The fly will be released soon to all the fireant test stations, and after that, if still successful, to the public. And what kills the fly? Guest guest
Hmmm, hopefully it'll work I got a book called The Texas Bug Book, and it has a few organic suggestions for helping control/get rid of the ants, including diatomaceous earth when the humidity is low and some homemade citrus peel & compost tea thingy ... I'll let y'all know the results of those suggestions as soon as I get a chance to try them out. For the moment it seems like the 8 + inches of rain we had yesterday killed the two mounds that were on the outskirts of my yards ... *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com Anya [mccoy] Tuesday, November 18, 2003 9:56 AM Re: Fly for fireants... I can see it all now, folks lined up for their fly ration. ;-p > And what kills the fly? Heck .. America always figures a way to deal with such things .. not always effective but there is money available for such research. Kudzu was brought in to stop erosion .. now its the state plant of Georgia and the deer sorta like it. Tulapia were brought into Hawaii to control algae in lakes .. and they took over .. but the Filipinos consider them to be one of the best fish around so they brought in more Filipinos to eat them. ;-p When the fly starts to become a nuisance .. and starts eating all the Ladybugs and such .. they'll come up with an ant that destroys the fly larva. See .. nature is just a big cycle. Well .. twas till man stuck his fingers into the equation. ;-) > Neysa Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com
