WAY OT painting

I have questions. I need opinions. Got one last nite at Lowe's.

Bedroom painting. One wall, with window is painted dark royal beautiful

smashing blue, semi gloss.

Wall where bed is is an abstract painted wall.

opposite wall, foot of bed, there is a small sliding glass door. [it's a

pella]

wall opposite blue wall has closet in one end.

This wall gets a blue 'throw' on it from light reflection. All wall are

newly painted. all walls are off white except the blue one and the abstract

one.

Questions:

Which wall should be painted red? [semi-gloss]

Should any wall be painted red? I want my bedroom blue and red with gold

accents.

Should another wall be painted blue and forget the red? Just do it with

accents?

The red is a Valspar 'bonfire red'. It has blue undertones, not orange. A

great red. Covers in 1 coat with a paint brush. Dunno about a roller yet.

I know only three colors in a room for paint. Apparently the gal at Lowe's

doesn't think the off white is a color. Hubby thinks it's not counted as a

color. Is it not?

Gal at Lowe's said her mom painted the same colors in her bedroom, but also

used a 'gold', [which looked like mustard to me, but, what do I know?] And

she said it was TOO much. No place to focus.

I also don't want my bedroom ending up red, off-white and blue.

I could also paint dots or triangles or _____ in red on a couple of the

walls?

FYI, hubby doesn't care.

Warm regards,

Janine Phariss

You will end up with two walls fighting to be the focal point if you make the

red wall a solid red wall and don't do anything else to determine which is the

focal point.

You can choose from furniture arranging or accessories or wall decorations to

make one the focus wall.

The colors sound nice.

thank you Dale. I hadn't thought of that. I HATE decorating. absolutely hate

it. I'd rather clean the toilets.

Having said that, I finallllly have the living room beautifully done. took 8

months. and only got the wall colors cause I got sick and tired of trying

one color after another and finally dumped yellow into the flat ceiling

white and 4 oz of 'dream coat' red along with some other dark pink into a

pink.

The guy at Lowe's here in phoenix, got an exact match of the yellow gold.

Took him 1.5 hours but he did it! AND I got the gallon for free cause it

took so long! Apparently there is clay in ceiling paint, which stops it from

dripping down, but it also causes ANY color you add to it to not be an easy

match.

But that room is done and I will NEVER paint it again. well, for a good many

years anyway.

Would the bed be a focus point? I dunno if I could stand having a bunch of

fru fru pillows on it.

Should I make the wall that has the bed on it the red wall and with the bed

it IS the focus or is that too much?

I know I have to paint over the abstract, as it's too low on the wall and

even though the bed is in front of it, it covers it up some, but that's the

problem, it covers it up and the bed is in front of it and it's too low.

We have a good breeze today at 65 degrees so I want to get some of it

painted today if possible.

Warm regards,

You don't have to have fru-fru pillows (I hate them too). Do you have a sewing

machine? Find some fabulous fabric (my friend brought me back some from

Thailand) and sew your own pillows. They're for decoration only so don't worry

about how 'sturdy' they are or 'perfect'. It's the linens overall that can make

an impact and simple, although harder in design process, is the way to go for

maximum wow.

Also, what is your headboard? If there isn't one you can make up a 'fake' one

on the wall where you're going to put the bed (you can't put the bed at an angle

as that will really make the different colored walls oddly noticable).

Last, but not least...lighting. Where is the lighting in your room? Wherever

it hits strongest is probably going to make your decision about where to focus

unless you're willing and it's easy to change lighting aspects in the room.

Gonna paint wall above bed blue. I've had a double espresso mocha today and

sound like I'm from New York, talking so fast. Get this wall painted before

it stops coursing thru my veins.

Red wall, I dunno where. Maybe I'll put red splotches on the blue wall. or

borders or wallpaper, or red squigglies. lol

Don't have a headboard, til we strip the paint from teh bookcase headboard

i've had for centuries. lighting is over head til we turn that out and turn

on the bedside lamps for the few min before we sleep.

gotta get a sewing machine. dunno which one. has to be able to sew stretchy

thick fabric that's on my shoes when the stretch gives out.

but I got a table saw Sat!! ooh baby, I'm on my way!

I vote for more blue walls...paint all the walls blue. Make sure they are cool

undertones, no yellow undertones. Lots and lots of red (cool red, not warm)

accessories...maybe pillows, shams, slip covered chair, duvet cover, stuff like

that, and gold as accent everywhere, but miniscule compared to the red.

I LOVE COLOR...LOTS AND LOTS OF HIGHLY SATURATED COLOR! I have a blue bathroom,

a green (more lime, not neon or day glo AT ALL) bedroom and bath in bedroom. My

walls in the living room are a beautiful saddle tan. My counter tops in the

kitchen are called spa and look like you're looking into a beautiful blue

swimming pool on a sunny day with the sun light reflecting, and I painted three

wicker pieces to match them. My floors are (fake) wood and my cabinets are

(fake) wood.

I love brilliant, beautiful, highly saturated color with natural

elements...wood, natural wicker, baskets, even a burber carpet, those sorts of

things.

gosh Shelley! You should come visit! The only thing that is my doing is the

wall color. We have berber carpet, flecks of color in it. Don't like it.

Ceramic tile floor in the kitchen and hallway, hate it. Too cold and hard.

Have rugs and pads thru out. Thank goodness for Sam's Club. :)

The kitchen is yellow with fake green plants and door trim I've been

painting different colors to see what I like. I LIKE the red, but this newer

red is darker nad richer looking so it will prolly end up this color. This

IS a cool red, almost maroon, but just a shade lighter than that. make a

hair and a half lighter. lol Going to paint the wood knobs I bought for the

kitchen cabinets the same red. Cabinets are oak, real. which matches the oak

mantle AND the oak shelves that went on either side of the fireplace that

the previous owners took. [we had a lousy realtor]

1st bathroom is gonna be red, and funny you said all that. Cause I finally

decided today to paint the other abstract painted wall that blue, cause I

reallllly like the color and I don't want to be limited in colors. I would

be if I did blue and red and I didn't want it to be red/white/blue. This

way, I can add red or purple or green or whatever accessories over the

years.

What you said is what I decided to do! That's so funny! But not all the

walls blue, I think it would be too much and I want to keep the wall with

the closet the off white, cause otherwise it might make the clothes look a

diff color. I want blue and picked black and didn't know til I got somewhere

else, type of thing.

And this is good, cause the little bit of red I painted in the bathroom

today is smelling to high heaven!

I'm so glad that you have decided.

I know you're relieved to have the decision making behind you. That is a

stressful thing sometimes. I'm sure it's going to be beautiful!

Night all!
