Credit card fraud, is getting bigger and bigger everyday...As a banker, I attend

fraud meetings on a regular basis...One thing you must never ever do at a

restuarant is hand the card to your waiter or waitress and let them walk away

with it.

Our bank has certain restuarants classifed as hot spots,, where they will call

you if you happened to eat at that particular resturant warning you to keep a

close eye on your transactions.

 

The biggest frauds we experience are from family members, the customers insist

that we reverse the debits, and we in turn say " Ok, we will after we charge

your son/daughter with fraud'.

 

Gas stations are another Hot zone, did you know that there is a device the size

of a pager that can read all the information off of your credit card, and I do

mean all of it..Pin number and all..

Please...EVERYONE....look at your pin number, it should not be your Birthdate

!!!!!!!!!... If your wallet is stolen, the first thing they will do is go

through all your id, teying this date and that , then the will check your home

address number and your phone number.

 

I currently deal with at least one fraud a month, another sad tale I hear is

that they pin number was written on the card or on a piece of paper, kept in the

wallet, or worse...My significant other knew my pin number. BANKS WILL NOT

reimburse clients in any of these cases, trust me I've been dealing with these

for 15 years now,,,

I'm sorta like that .. I never use them unless I visit the USA. But

then I have no choice cause I'm normally where folks don't know me so

check cashing is not an option .. and carrying a lotta cash is not a

Yep .. the Freedom of Information Act is overruled by the Privacy Act in

cases of individuals .. not organizations.

 

But the good parts of my situation is that first, the CC company sent

the letter cause they believed something weird was going down .. and

secondly, I'm not being held responsible for any of it. Finally, the

young feller I talked to said they would likely not have a lot of

problems in catching this person. Of course, they canceled the card

immediately and issued another .. which they'll send.

PS: Just watched Arnold being sworn in as California Governator .. and

heard that Mohammed (the D.C. sniper) was found guilty on all counts ..

with sentence to be passed today, so its not a bad day after all. ;-p

Even then Butch...savvy criminals know the numbering system and just bide their

time 'til they've figured you've got your new card and then they start using the

new numbered card.

 

Happened to me on this one. It was an American Express Optima card. We wound

up canceling it completely.

I appologize to the waitor/waitress and I tell them that my card doesn't leave

my side, and I will walk over to the machine and watch the transaction..

the last meeting I was at which was less than a month ago, we were looking at

roughly 990,000 dollars worth on fraudulent transactions, within Canada, in the

last 2 months prior to the meeting.

 

I find that most waitors/waitresses understand, and have no problems with me

watching them.

The ones that do question, I just explain in a nice way, why I do it. I tell

them It's nothing personal, It's just something that I have done for years.
