Guest guest
Good you caught it so early. I had ID theft too. It's not not that quick to deal with. She has used the name I had before I was married and somehow figured out I got married and continued to use my ssn and name after I was married. If anyone wants some tips on what to do and who to call etc, here's a good list: www.libertywebworks.com/ccfraud.html Warm regards, Janine Phariss www.BlueSageNaturals.com Unique & Innovative Herbals
Guest guest
Hi, That sucks....One thing that we have started here in Toronto, certain branches now hang pictures beside the ABM machines of customers who have commited fraud, as a warning to our customers to be wary of whom is standing behind you.. Makes us feel better too..lol Carol - Dale Bernucca Monday, November 17, 2003 1:50 PM Re: OT: Credit Card Fraud Hi Butch - I know every single CC purchase I make that's how little I try to use my cards. Fortunate that is because when I saw $1,400 in concert tickets and $800 in flights to Miami charged to my card I knew exactly where it would have originated and told the CC company so - a moving truck rental business. The bad part is that according to the CC company they cannot tell us the outcome - who they found to be the culprit. It's part of privacy...for the bum!!! That pissed me off. I'd like to know 'cuz I'd like to let consumers be aware that there is a criminal in our neighborhood - apparently that is not legal to do. Dale - Butch Owen Monday, November 17, 2003 11:45 PM OT: Credit Card Fraud Hi y'all, Long I've been telling folks that its not the telephone lines we have to worry about .. and we shouldn't get warm fuzzies when a clerk hands us back the carbon. Its anywhere between that clerk and the accounting department .. one weak link is all it takes. Well .. today I learned that I was preaching the truth. Got a letter from one of my credit cards .. said I owed six hundred and so and so bucks. Well .. during my 90 days in the USA I lived on my credit cards .. but the day afore I caught the plane they were all paid down to zero .. and haven't been used since then. However, since that time .. over $600 has been charged on one of them. Took one phone call to make it go away .. and the person on the other end must have had a good deal of experience dealing with CC fraud as he immediately said it looked like someone was fraudulently using my card. Funny part is .. whoever this dummy is that has been using the card is gonna get his/her butt in a bind cause they paid their AOL account two times with it. Anyway .. just thought I'd throw this out as its sorta comical in one respect .. and sad in another. But USAA Visa says they are certain this one has stuck his/her dumb neck in the noose. ;-p Butch
Guest guest
Hey Dale, > Hi Butch - > I know every single CC purchase I make that's how little I try to use > my cards. I'm sorta like that .. I never use them unless I visit the USA. But then I have no choice cause I'm normally where folks don't know me so check cashing is not an option .. and carrying a lotta cash is not a good idea .. nor is it comfortable. > Fortunate that is because when I saw $1,400 in concert tickets and > $800 in flights to Miami charged to my card I knew exactly where it > would have originated and told the CC company so - a moving truck > rental business. Good show .. glad you did. :-p > The bad part is that according to the CC company they cannot tell us > the outcome - who they found to be the culprit. It's part of > privacy...for the bum!!! Yep .. the Freedom of Information Act is overruled by the Privacy Act in cases of individuals .. not organizations. But the good parts of my situation is that first, the CC company sent the letter cause they believed something weird was going down .. and secondly, I'm not being held responsible for any of it. Finally, the young feller I talked to said they would likely not have a lot of problems in catching this person. Of course, they canceled the card immediately and issued another .. which they'll send. > Dale Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch PS: Just watched Arnold being sworn in as California Governator .. and heard that Mohammed (the D.C. sniper) was found guilty on all counts .. with sentence to be passed today, so its not a bad day after all. ;-p
