I think you may misunderstand the nomenclature for ylangylang... there is (normally) ylangylang extra (sometimes a ylangylang super that is above that, but VERY few producers make that particular cut), ylangylang 1, 2, and 3. these don't refer to any grading system... Ylangylang is normally distilled in fractions... ie, let the distillation begin... take off some of the oil...the first fraction... the Extra...continue a bit... take off the second fraction... Ylangylang 1, then a bit more and you have ylangylang 3, and, finally, ylangylang 3. now, each distiller makes his own choice as to WHERE to draw that line btwn Extra and 1, or 1 and 2, etc. Obviously, a LARGER production of Extra (the most costly/valuable) will probably have some of what another producer might classify as ylangylang1, rather than extra.... so you can't really say that they are 'technically the same'... not at all... and it's not really possible to say that ANY oil is 'the same' as any other... unless it's from the same producer.
