Guest guest
Hey Veliraf, > Hey butch; > I have to say- you are one of the most thorough in your answers of any > list I belong to, and I greatly appreciate it!!! Thanks .. I try to be understood and that sometimes takes some folks to the school house when they don't really need to go there. But them that don't usually don't mind cause they know there's many that do. ;-p > I have ordered from two people so far, and have a third 'in the mail' > can't wait for it to arrive either!! Good luck. :-) > I have been really happy with the service of the people I have been > dealing with so far (well, all except for one- but I didn't buy EO's > either) I place small 'test' orders first so I can get an idea of who > I am dealing with. I have been lucky <well, my kind of luck anyhow!!> Seems like you are on the right track. > enough to have mistakes with two of the ones I have dealt with and > they were both resolved expeditiously. Some of the EO's are icky, > and although they are supposed to have great properties, I don't know > if I'll be using them all that often, though it could be that I've > blended them 'wrong'. Some smell exactly like I though they would, and > some are a pleasant surprise. If you are blending the results are your creation .. you can only tell quality by sniffing a pure, unadulterated EO from a single source aromatic. Blending is (in a way) adulteration cause its obvious that one of the oils will be inferior to another in price .. mebbe quality. > I see what you mean about your marketing comment- an intelligent > shopper would be easily able to find the best prices, and different > qualities and grades of EO's with just a bit of work, after all, I > did- oh wait I just said I was intelligent<g> Well .. if you're smart enough to know you're intelligent then you probably are. ;-) But my comment was directly more to smart sellers vs those who are a bit lazy and don't do their homework so they can price their oils fairly and still make a profit. > As for origin of oils- I did compare origins as well- my rosemary is > from Tunisia-hate it- but will look into some from other places as > well. First we gotta know which Rosemary .. and since you mention Tunisia I'm gonna assume its Cineole Chemotype. But Tunisia is right up there at the top for producing Rosmarinus officinalis, Cineole .. as is Turkey and Morocco. Rosemary grows wild near the sea .. never too far away. Lavenders, Rose Otto, Helichrysum italicum and some other oils are more specialized in origin than are others. And as Chris mentioned in her post, knowing the Botanical Name is critical .. Common Names mean ZERO in this business because there are too many that are shared .. plus one country will not use the same Common Name as another country. One point Chris made I can't agree with. > If you can find out the date an oil was produced - great! Its not great .. its CRITICAL!!!!!!! ;-p If you don't know the date of production there is no way to begin to determine the shelf life. Date of Production is NOT date of bottling. > And please excuse my ignorance- but what EXACTLY is a fractionated > oil?? It means .. that during the first (but normally the second or onward) distillation something was taken out of the oil .. which naturally, increases the percentage of something else .. the equation tilts. For Ylang Ylangs they pull off oils at certain times during the distillation process .. thus the I, II, III, Extra and Complete and sometimes we can see what some distiller calls Superior or whatever .. marketing hype that one is methinks. > One final question- how do you feel about the quality of EO's > available from FPI? I can give you the web-site if you need it- but I > thought I'd ask since they seem to be bulk suppliers- and probably for > some retailers as well. Don't know if I want 500ml of each oil but > WAAAYY cheaper than everyone else out there. Cheaper on many carrier > oils as well. I've never purchased from FPI. I know nothing about their quality. I do know that a few years back the owner spent some time in the slammer in England for seller adulterated oils .. I know not if it was justified or a miscarriage of justice .. but in any case, if it was justified I reckon anybody can change. > Thanks > Nicole > Veliraf Farm > Nicole Heath > http://www.angelfire.com/nh/veliraf Welcome .. and keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com Bulk/Wholesale/Retail GC Tested EO, Rose Otto, Tested Hydrosols and other nice things shipped from our store in Friendsville, MD.
