Guest guest
Please do not use eucalyptus for such a young baby. In his book Plant Aromatics Martin Watt quotes the following reference: Products containing eucalyptus oil should not be applied to, or near the nostrils in infants because of the risk of spasm of the glottis, due to the cooling effect on the respiratory system. Burrow A. et al. 1983. Arcta. Otolaryngol. 96: 157-161. E. citriodora is not really a substitute for E. globulus, radiata or smithii because its chemical structure is completely different. E. globulus, radiata or smithii are high in oxides (globulus around 76%, radiata around 68%, smithii around 78%) with no aldehydes while E. citriodora is high in aldehydes (around 80%) with only around 1% oxide so based on this the uses and properties of this oil will be somewhat different to those of E. globulus, radiata or smithii. E. smithii is generally considered to be the gentlest of the three and is the one most often recommended for use with children.
