Guest guest
Dang, I'm glad I don't live in Florida! Or California anymore for that matter. ACLU, I think I'll pass on anymore. Think I'll take hubby to see opening day of Master Commander, that ship movie. Guest guest
Hey Anya, Thanks .. and good show for the cops. Damn politicians kiss ass so they can be reelected but cops have to bleed so those same fat cats can get fatter. > Hey, Butch, you want a little Free Trade 101 in 2003? Come to Miami > next week, where the free-for-all is expected to erupt: > > http://www.nbc6.net/news/2635211/detail.html > (note there are many stories on this on this page, just scroll down) I see that Civil Rights Groups are challenging the rules that weapons can't be carried. Obviously it is the Civil Right of assholes to hurt folks and destroy property during protests. > http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/news/local/7261652.htm > It's gonna be wicked. downtown is going to be closed, full riot alert. The ban is against people carrying " such items as rocks, glass bottles, handcuffs, water balloons and spray paint, and limits the thickness of the wood used to carry signs or flags to one-quarter inch. " AND .. the ACLU Idiots replied: " The approval drew a quick response from the American Civil Liberties " Union, which said it might file a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the law as early as Monday. " > They've caught several self-proclaimed anarchists in town in the past few > weeks, like the ones on top of a Starbucks (a favorite target of theirs) > with cans of gasoline and hoses. Anarchists is the correct word .. it was activists that began the fight against abuse of laborers in the late 1800s .. and it was good .. then the anarchists took over and it was bombing, blood, guts and death. > It's a complicated issue, and they choose to work outside the system, > causing riots, instead of working inside the system, causing change. Correct .. if so-called civilized countries allow civil liberties to go to a point where folks can hurt others and/or destroy their property then we are all going to be living some difficult times. I would kill any bastard that tried to violate my life, liberty or property .. and do so without remorse. > There is a story in the Herald today about a Harvard lawyer who seems > to be the only one who works inside the system, so she gets a story. Good for her. > We're expecting 'black bands' (dressed all in black, like commandos), > guys with wrist rocket-launchers that spew out ball bearings, the > 'piss patrol', who throw ballons full of you-know, their #2 back up > buddies, and lots of destruction downtown. And .. if a cop takes one down the cop might be held for excessive use of force. Folks wonder why cops are frustrated and have the highest rate of suicide of any profession. > We'll see if the local cops can control them, but I'm not making any bets. I hope they do .. and not so gently. > Anya > http://member.newsguy.com/~herblady Thanks .. Butch
Guest guest
Hi Butch and others who may be interested in this 'sorta' off-topic information... I went to downtown Miami today to get some chow from the only place in town that makes masala dosas. Drove and walked around a bit, and took some pictures. I think I'll go back tomorrow to take more pics, when the downtown is really deserted (it closes down on Sundays, anyway) and take some more pics, since they're boarding up all the banks and businesses and hotels like a hurricane's coming. Many of the small storefronts have metal shutters, anyway. On Monday, an area from N. 6th St to S.5th St and from the Bay to about 8 blocks west will be closed off, putting everyone downtown out of business for the week. http://member.newsguy.com/~herblady/ftaa.htm http://member.newsguy.com/~herblady

The cops here in Miami are tough and have the go-ahead from the top-down to do whatever it takes to stop violence. We have a new no-nonsense chief of police, Timmony, and the mayor and council back them. They will allow for all peaceful protests, and are even trying to find housing for the protesters, but will do anything to prevent Miami from becoming another Seattle or Genoa. http://member.newsguy.com/~herblady

Be safe. Hi Lynette: I'm fromPhilly, and even though I've lived elsewhere since '70, my family has kept me up to date on the news. My mother's friend was Rizzo's secretary for years, and after O'Neill proved himself to be such a coward, she quit. The story: he lived right around the corner from my mother, and one night he and his wife got off the trolley and were walking to their home, when muggers came along. He went into a phone booth to call 911, but in the meantime, left his wife outside the closed phonebooth! Do you remember O'Neill? That was in the early 70s. Timmony has screwed up some since he's been here (his dept. didn't test DNA of a serial rapist for over a year, and if they had, they could have solved the case sooner, etc., etc.) and we'll see how he comes out in this first real test. He got all in a twist last week after the County cops arrested some FTAA people inside city limits, which I thought was just piss-marking, and caused a big rift at a really bad time. http://member.newsguy.com/~herblady
