This snip is taken from the soy wax distributors web site: Heat wax to 150/160 degrees in a double boiler or wax melter Add color, remove from heat source Add desired fragrance oil at about 140-150 degrees (generally about 7% by weight is suggested for the wax). remember---all please be sure to weigh your fragrance oils. Stir slowly to combine, yet not incorporate air. My note: manufacturers usually suggest stirring for 2 minutes. True eo's are not fo's. so lets play a bit here. Kathleen had 16oz soy and 1 oz of beeswax at 3% eo we are at .51 at 7% we are at 1.19 and at 10% 1.7 And true different oils call for different amounts. Some folks " triple scent " Also true adding eo's into wax at 140-150 degrees tends to give the candle maker a burst of fragrance. Run ya out of the room, make sure the room is well ventilated but not drafty. Now also true, I do not make candles scented with Rose Otto, Jasmine absolute or Neroli eo's. If some one on the list does, please I would love to talk to you. I suppose if I had a customer who wanted it done and was willing to pay the cost I would try it to see. But the rose wax etc like Ylva suggests makes better sense to me. I do know from experience Oregano onites will clean my lungs out very time I pour Oregano candles, and I have 3-4 people who swear they can burn those and the breathing is not hindered and in some instances they feel it helps them. Many folks get frustrated when they first begin with soy because everything about it is different. What works for 1 person will not work for another. Humidity, room temperature, pour temps, types and amounts of oils, types of wax formulae, additives, wick types and sizes vary with different oils. And I am sure folks get tired of hearing me say it takes testing, testing, testing. All soy wax is not equal, all eo's are not going to react the same. I suppose at some level this gets us back to the diffusion issue, what happens to eo's when heat is applied. I know may folks have strong opinions, some insist on cold water diffusion rather than heat diffusion. But ya can't add oils to cold wax. >The entry for October 13, 1999.
