Guest guest
Hi, I guess I will give another viewpoint on feeding and caring for our beloved pets. I have two greythounds that I rescued from the track. When I got my big 84 lb racing weight GH, he was very sick from all the vaccines he just had. It took me about a month to get him back to normal - 10 lbs lighter. And I got him off wheat products totally. I looked into various dog foods, organic, wheat related, corn related, etc. After reading several books regarding the BARF diet, biologically appropriate raw food, and talking to many owners in our local greyhound group, I switched both my GH's to BARF. I talked to our Vet on the vaccines. She feels after the greys have had at least two sets of the vaccines, it is not necessary to keep vaccinating them every year. Of course, they have to have the rabies every 3 years and I signed an agreement to give them heart pills. Our Vet also feeds her dogs raw foods although she grinds up the bones where most of us give the whole chicken back or turkey neck. I have seen so many of these greys who had various problems get back to a state of health when switched to the raw diets with NO wheat in their diets. Now, I'm no expert, nary none whatsoever. However, for 30 years I have studied homeopathics and other modalities out of the mainstream. I, nor my son, could handle traditional prescription meds so I had to find some other ways to handle physical problems. I have had good results using homeopathics with my boy GH the few times he has needed something. I use rose hydrosol every few weeks on their coats as I brush them. I don't diffuse many EO's in the house because I truly don't know if they are good for them. I have used tea tree diluted when my boy gets a boo-boo and so far no problem. I know to be careful with herbs as I have had allergic reactions there also. I don't push my way on others. I have studied, investigated, and talked to other owners to get their experience and to many vets. Everyone has their viewpoint and I respect that. In the final analysis, we each want the best for our fur babies. I know I probably over-protect mine and love them, love them, love them. My boy had accupuncture and my girl had chiropractic treatment for her back. Thank goodness my Vet can do all of this. Just another viewpoint from a greythound owner who wants the best for her pups. I had a white German Shepherd who lived to 17 and with hip problems and accupuncture lived a very long time. I'm hoping for the same with these two. Warmly, Bobbye Transform the planet with love, one heart at the time
