Janine,

There's at least one email list on for owners of epileptic

dogs. Lots of experience and knowledge there -- you might want to join and

see what you can glean from it. Sorry I don't know the name of it, but I bet

if you search under dogs and epilepsy, you'll find it.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch Janine, try a few drops of Lobelia extract.....

2 or three drops.... NO MORE. I use it on my kid at a higher dose.

Sorry to hear about your babies.

There are so many things that can bring about seizues in dogs, diet

change, toxins, low blood sugar, stress, excitement - and they may

come about without warning and over long periods of time- Also the

full moon has been known to have a increase in seizures in dogs, the

moon was full last night- along with the lunar eclipse but?

Anyway MY best advice having a breed prone to epilepsy and

hypoglycemic seizures and I am NOT a expert is to chart the

seizures :diet change, vaccinations,meds- behavior before and during

the seizure, did they pace, get aggitated, foam at the mouth ,pass

out ? anything you noticed, that will help your vet diagnose what

kind of seizure your dog had.

I keep a bottle of rescue remedy on hand and I put a drop of honey

on the tongue, but this is for hypoglycemic seizures. Its best to

discuss with your vet and question him or her on your options - as

long term phenolbarbatrol use can cause liver damage- my vet doesn't

even use that drug anymore.

You may opt for the potassium- that does not have the immediate

effect as the pheno, but less side effects, or if you are lucky

enough to have a holistic vet they may be able to suggest

alternative treatments and that group sounds like a great source of

info. Dogs with epliepsy can live long and normal lives.

Good luck to you I hope everyone gets better real soon

Thanks Gea. I hope you are well soon!

After reading the link Sevi sent, well, still reading it, I will NOT put

Petey on phenobarb.

He had one seizure last nite. None today. Hubby is thinking of changing his

diet, is canned dog food any good for them? Dry doesn't seem to help him. I

gave him a can of canned this a.m. He reallllllllllly liked it!

Petey is a bit unsteady on his feet. He did not get agressive when he had

it, or before or after it. Dunno who was more scared, him or us. I put 10

drops of poppy tincture in his water.

We have an appt with the vet this afternoon, but with everything I'm

reading, I'm not sure that's the way to go.

Petey was sleeping on the sofa next to me when he woke up and went rigid.

Seemed like he didn't hear me, wobbled around while I was hollering for my

husband. Went splat on the floor, rigid. Eyes went white and I called the

neighbor. It was 10 p.m. I think, and I figured she was up.

He didn't lose his bowels or bladder, in fact he went outside to go after it

was over.

oh dang! That's right Marilyn! Lobelia!!!! I have some tincture too, a bunch

of it!

Now I would know this if I could make my mind think of him as a kid and not

a dog. Works for asthma too. he's going to the doctor in a few.

Thanks for the tip.
