Seabuckthorn, dogs and other stuff

I have read all the posts about dogs and EOs and I think it's so cool

to join minds all across the world :-)

Seabuckthorn CO2 and Seabuckthorn oil is one ingredient that I use in

all my " lotions and potions " , I read about it somewhere and got some

samples (from the US of course) and it got me hooked right away. But -

I confess, I had no idea that there was differences between the one

from the Baltic countries and the US grown... you learn something new

everyday. But - I will continue use the stuff I have for now and

combined with unrefined sheabutter and calendula CO2 - wow what

healing and nutrious wonders I create ;-D

Fiona is my furrybaby, a Rhodesian Ridgeback of 2years (of course the

most beautiful dog on this earth ;-))and so far she have been very

healthy and have no allergies. The only thing is that her boyfriend,

the samojed Aslan living next door, can't resist licking, sucking at

her ears. Whenever they meet he just schmoozes them until they look

(and feel) like whet dishcloths LOL. The result of this TLC is that

she gets very funky ears. So far we have been treating the fungus she

devlops with some drops that the vet prescribed and it have worked

just fine. But - if there is some natural and non dangerous way to

treat it, I would love to hear about it. Maybe there is something one

can use to prevent the fungus top grow??

Hi Ylva!

i too, think this " round table " pet discussion is very cool.

One thought would be putting something on her ears that Aslan does not

like the taste of - therefore would quit licking her ears. :) There

are a few products like this on the market, bitter apple etc.

The other is that the drops they make for ears these days (tresaderm

etc.) are pretty darn safe topically. Not ALL drugs are bad. I worry

more about the drug store brands of ear-mite/flea protection with

pyrethrins. Exposure to pyrethrins has been linked to Parkinson's dz

in humans. Incidentally, pyrethrins are derived from crysanthemums, I

believe.

drugs = not always bad

plants = not always good.

Judicious use of either is always called for.

I LOVE Rhodies - always one of my fav dogs - give her a big wet smooch

for me.

Dear Ylva,

There is no seabuckthorn produced in the United States as far as I am aware.

Also, with few exceptions, all seabuckthorn is extracted using CO2. Some is

cold pressed but that is usually berry oil not seed and has much

precipitation in it.

Dogs, Petey chews up my mentholatum chapstick when I am gone. Anyone have

any idea why? He KNOWS he's done wrong once we come home and he's been in

the trash or chewing something up. As today. He does this alpha dog thing to

me and I just know he's done *something*. lol The people before me who had

him must have hit him or something, cause Petey cowers.

We give him a bone when we leave, but he likes to find other things. :)

Warm regards,

Janine,

I must be more fuddlebrained that usual, cause I thought you said on

your webpage that you was the only one carrying US produced

Seabuckthorn....gahhhh, I feel so slow.

Haha, I don't know what it is about dogs and chapsticks (well, for

that matter whipped sheabutters and handcreams as well), cause Fiona

just loved to chew them up and get to all that wax and fats. Some

month ago when I got home (after accidentially left the bathroom door

open), she had snatched several jars of creams and butters (well, two

of them anyway) and chewed them open and licked them dry. I haven't

notised that it did her any harm, she didn't put on any weight that's

for sure ;-D

Fragrant Blessings,

Ylva
