Guest guest
Hello everyone! I just joined this list (thank you, Butch, for the recommendation) and thought I should introduce myself. My name is Ellen and I live in the Seattle area with my hubby and two golden retrievers. We do our best to live a natural lifestyle -- eating organically, using non-toxic cleaning products, using natural medicine, etc. I even feed my pups a raw, homemade diet. I have used natural products containing EOs for awhile now, but am just getting my feet wet at mixing them myself. I have ordered a diffuser and a few oils from Anatolian Treasures to get started. I have a few questions for all you experts! 1. Is there anything I need to know about diffusing oils around dogs? I want to be sure I don't compromise their health -- or their sensitive noses! -- in any way. 2. I'd love some suggestions for diffuser blends! I am especially interested in a spicy Christmas blend, an energizing/creativity blend, an immune system boosting blend, and a relaxing blend. I just ordered my oils by picking some of my favorite scents, so I hope I have the right combination to create a few simple diffuser blends. Here are the oils I just ordered: > > 10 ml .. Lavender, Fr. Hi Alt (L. angustifolia) > > 10 ml .. Pine Needle (Pinus kessia) > > 20 ml .. Cinnamon Leaf (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) > > 20 ml .. Clove Bud (Eugenia carophyllata) > > 20 ml .. Lemon (Citrus lemon) > > 20 ml .. Orange, Sweet (Citrus sinensis) > > 20 ml .. Peppermint (Mentha piperita) > > Smple .. Cedarwood (Red) Virginia (J. virginiana) > > Smple .. Chamomile, Roman (Anthemis nobilis) > > Smple .. Cocoa (Chocolate) Absolute (Theobroma cacao) > > Smple .. Jasmine Absolute (Jasminum sambac) > > Smple .. Mandarin, Red (Citrus deliciosa) 3. How often do most of you diffuse oils? Is it something you have going all the time, or just for a couple of hours for a specific purpose? 4. What are the oils you would suggest for my next order? Any must-have basics that I'm missing? 5. I recently read that putting a few drops of Peppermint EO on your car's dashboard helps keep you calm and alert in traffic. My husband hates rush hour.... wondering if I should try this. Anybody done it? Thank you for reading all the way thru this! Looking forward to " meeting " all of you. Thank you for recommending the list Butch! I'm very glad you like it here enough to tell other folks to come spend time here too > > My name is Ellen and I live in the Seattle area with my hubby and two golden retrievers. Welcome Ellen, you sound a lot like me - except the kitty gets Nutro brand food cause she won't eat anything else, unless it is fresh shrimp or lobster (talk about Rockerfeller tastes ;p) But I used to make homemade meals for my dogs when they were still with us > > I have used natural products containing EOs for awhile now, but am just getting my feet wet at mixing them myself. They have hyper sensitive noses so what smells strong to us is like sticking our head in the bottle of EO to them. > > 2. I'd love some suggestions for diffuser blends! Spices and conifers are great for wintery holiday/germ fighting/ immune enhancing blends, and citrus scents blend well with those too ... > > Here are the oils I just ordered: > > > 10 ml .. Is it something you have going all the time, or just for a couple of hours for a specific purpose? Not all the time. Sometimes I just want to create a mood so I'll diffuse a blend for that. Other times if somebody in the household is sick I'll diffuse (or use a vaporizer) a blend to help them breathe and kill germs in the air. But as with anything, overkill is a bad idea. Enjoy it, don't get worried about enjoying it, but don't diffuse 24/7. > > 4. What are the oils you would suggest for my next order? Any must- have basics that I'm missing? Tea Tree, Oregano and Lemon Myrtle are the first ones that comes to my mind - OH, and get some Rose Otto while you can > > 5. I recently read that putting a few drops of Peppermint EO on your car's dashboard helps keep you calm and alert in traffic. My husband hates rush hour.... wondering if I should try this. Anybody done it? I'd put it on a tissue and then in the ash tray rather than on the dash itself. Some oils might negatively affect the integrity of the material the dashboard is made out of, and it is also easier to remove the source of the smell if he finds it to be too much, or ends up not liking that particular scent. Peppermint isn't the only scent that can be used. If he likes for example orange better, go for orange, it is a unplifting yet soothing scent and can make some folks feel " sunny and happy " > > Thank you for reading all the way thru this!
