My reply to Jenn would not help you as the info you seek is totally different the info she was asking about. >How much eo of one scent, say, basil, would Steve use in a beeswax, votice >size candle? What size wick? You would think that was an easy question to answer but it is not. Which is why candle makers test. test, test. All votives are not the same size. All eo's do not require the same amount of scent. Here is my suggestion. Take a slab of beeswax. Drill a wick sized hole in the was. Take 5/0 square braid wick that has been finished, this will generally burn to a diameter of 1.75-2. inches Take a 2/0 square braid wick that has been finished, this will generally burn 2-3 " diameter. Thread the wick through the wax. Set the slab on a non stick surface and light the wicks. Allow 1 hour of burn time for each inch of candle diameter. Keep notes. Next prepare your votive molds some are 2oz. some are 3oz some are 5.5 oz. I would probably do we test pour and burns. Melt wax add 1/2 oz of eo pour into molds. Make notes by the molds so you know which is which. Repeat with 3/4 oz per lb and 1 oz per lb. Then when mold are removed allow candles to cure 1 week to 10 day. I store mine in airtight holding containers. Then they have cured. Test the candles, you are look at the size of the flame, burn time, cold and hot scent throw. Keep good notes and evaluate the end product. >At least I know enough about candles to know if it's a big round one and >there's only one wick, don't buy it, cause it will just burn down the >middle. Probably a good standard rule but really would depend on wax type and wick size. Please DO NOT melt crayons into wax in order to get colored candles. Have fun and enjoy the process.
