Cheryl, I have only studied up on shea butter.....unrefined to be specific. The way I have interpreted what I have read is that if stored properly (in a temperate environment, out of direct light, in an airtight container....best to avoid metal containers) that the butter has an indefinite and long shelf life.....it is a stable oil and will be usable as a butter for a long time. Fresh, quality, unrefined shea butter contains lots of extra 'goodies'.....these 'goodies' will break down and lose their vitality way before the butter becomes unusable as an oil. Never thought about beeswax having any kind of shelf life limitation....and I don't use much coconut butter. If you are comfortable with the appearance and scent of the items then find an excuse to use them before they sit around too much longer! Sounds like you've got the basics for a few batches of soap! margie www.hillcountryhaiku.com
Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I am wondering the shelf life on shea butter, beeswax and coconut butter? I have some that was packed away about a year ago and I am wondering if it would still be usable? Guest guest
Hi Cheryl, I don't usually store this kinda stuff in bulk for long as I go through it pretty fast, but there is always a little bit of something that gets tossed in a bag, or tin or box and buried and discovered years later I've never seen beeswax go bad (and I've got some given to me by my friend's dad many years ago - like 20 years ago actually, and its still fine . I also have yet to see properly stored shea butter get yucky. I've seen poorly produced shea butter that was yucky from the start though ;-p, but that's another story *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com >Hi Everyone, > >I am wondering the shelf life on shea butter, >beeswax and coconut butter? Guest guest
Beeswax is good indefinitely. It never goes bad. It may develop a 'bloom' on the surface- but that can be wiped off with a damp cloth. 2 down and one to go for your answers Nicole Veliraf Farm Nicole Heath http://www.angelfire.com/nh/veliraf Does the name Pavlov ring a bell ? Guest guest
It's my understand that some of the beeswax they used on the hinges in the pyramids are still working pretty well. So I don't think it breaks down. FWIW David Roman PS Unless you keep it for a really L O N G time!
