Morning Butch,

Glad you had a good safe trip. Sounds like you did a lot while here.

Nice you have someone good to keep the ship running so good while you were gone.

Its a big decision, but ya have to do whats best in the end.

Nancy

Anyhow .. back I am and glad too I reckon. Much I miss about Turkey

when I leave it .. sorta confuses me when I go outside the USA and

then

return. I think I know what I wanna do but I get conflicting signals

when I come back here. I think I'm just gonna have to do what I

think

is best for me even if its not what I really wanna do. I reckon its

a

bit like the new kuntry song .. I knew what I was feeling .. but what

was I thinking? ;-p

Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com

Hi y'all,

My server has been down since I arrived back here .. could receive but

not send .. it was just fixed (I hope) an hour ago. So some folks who

sent orders this weekend are just now getting confirmation on them.

Got back to Turkey Friday night .. dragging butt I was too as the trip

started by driving 220 miles to DC and I had to turn the car in by noon

but didn't fly out till 5:30.

Had a nice layover in Munich .. couple of sausages and I had to try one

each of the Pils, Lager and Weissbeers. Big difference twixt them and

the US stuff .. with the exception of some I had in New Mexico .. buddy

there makes his own.

Got to my house in Ankara around 5:30 Friday afternoon .. threw a buncha

clothes into the washer, showered and had plans to cool it for the night

but they didn't work out. One of the cops I know at the airport saw me

(they help me get some folks in with VIP treatment so I stay on their

good side) and then he called another buddy (a member of the President's

body guard detail) so around 7:00 PM two folks knock on the door and we

wind up at my favorite pun, the Papsi. And lemme tell you there is a

big difference twixt Turkish Efes Beer and American stuff too. ;-p

Bought a digital camera during my travels in the USA (even old dawgs can

learn new tricks) and I think I got some pretty good shots. I'll put'em

up on a site one of these days (actually, Chris will do it for me cause

I ain't smart enough on such matters). ;-p

Drove over 9,300 miles during my nice stay in the USA .. covered around

15 states or so .. maybe more as I have no map in front of me now. Got

as far west as AZ .. had a great time in SC, NM and KY .. generally it

was a super-nice trip. In that 9,300 miles I was not stopped even once

for speeding .. which is sorta unusual for me but I kept it one Cruise

the entire time .. UNTIL .. and this is a butt kicker fer'shur .. I was

coming down 66 and only 15 miles from the Dulles airport. Came over a

hill and there sat a VA trooper .. knew the feller had me and sho'nuf he

whipped around and put the habeus grabbus on me. Said he clocked me at

84 in a 65 and I reckon he was right. :-( But, he was nice feller and

after a bit of talk on this and he decided he was gonna let me go with a

verbal warning. :-)

Got to the airport and I was 26 pounds overweight .. which was sorta a

surprise as I figured I would be underweight. But the nice ladies let

it go without me paying extra. Got to Ankara and as I was opening my

bags at home I noted that one had the lock rings and the lock missing.

Opened it and all was in order ceptin there was a printed note from the

Transportation Security Administration stating their duties and such and

saying my bag was one that was chosen for inspection. They went on to

say that if a bag was locked they would cut the lock and they were not

responsible for damage to the bag. ;-( I'm writing a Nastygram to them

on that one .. with a copy to my senator in Kentucky. I saw the trained

monkeys doing the unaccompanied baggage checks with their machine in DC

and damned if I can understand why they need to open a bag when they

have such sophisticated equipment available .. methinks they are bored.

Anyway .. got up early Saturday morning. First time I have done that in

a while as I was living Vampire hours whilst in the USA. Had a terrible

hunger and nothing to eat in the house cept'in some Feta Cheese I had

forgotten in the refrigerator and after 3 months it looked like I oughta

donate it to some research lab cause I'm sure the cure for half the

diseases known to man was on that cheese. Walked out of my place and

had a hard time choosing where to eat as there are a half dozen places

within 100 yards of my front door. Chose a peasant place with good chow

and had two bowls of lentil soup w/lemon (a common village breakfast and

one I have learned to like too) .. and lots of pide bread .. we are in

Ramadan now (Ramazan in Turkish) and the special Ramazan pide is really

something nice. :-P

My secretary came in to work Saturday .. which was totally unnecessary

but that's her style .. she knew I was coming in and wanted to brief me.

The little gal is but 17 years old .. graduated from high school this

year and will study for the college entrance exams for a year before

trying to pass them. That is not necessary in Turkey but its wise cause

the pass-fail ratio is like 20% pass .. and the higher score you make

the better you chances of choosing the university and the area in which

you wanna study. Dilek is a smart little gal and was in charge of the

company for the three months I was in the USA .. did a superb job too.

She's like my daughter .. been working with me since she was 15 .. high

school has an apprentice program where kids go to work in companies

part-time .. she came as an accountant/bookkeeper but I made her #2 when

she was 16 and she has NEVER EVER let me down. Got more self-motivation

and sense of responsibility than many I have had who were twice her age

and college graduates. Methinks a part of that comes from not having

been mollycoddled .. she's from a poor family and knows the only road to

success for a woman in Turkey is an education.

Anyhow .. back I am and glad too I reckon. Much I miss about Turkey

when I leave it .. sorta confuses me when I go outside the USA and then

return. I think I know what I wanna do but I get conflicting signals

when I come back here. I think I'm just gonna have to do what I think

is best for me even if its not what I really wanna do. I reckon its a

bit like the new kuntry song .. I knew what I was feeling .. but what

was I thinking? ;-p
