Dear List Members,

Can anyone suggest a good substitute to petroleum based " lamp oil " ?

This would be used in an old fashioned oil lamp with a wick.

Thanks, Christina

I used to use the cheapest veggie oil stuff in the grocery store for floating

wick candles.

Wasn't olive oil the traditional lamp oil they used back in biblical

times and places? I wonder if that would be the best choice or if they

only used olive cause it was the main oil of the region and a thinner

oil would be better for this purpose. Any ideas/experience with this

anyone?

Thank you for the info. Is any particular one better than another as

to odor, light given off, possibility of smoking while burning?

Does it work to add essential oils to the vegetable oil? (By " work " , I

mean diffuse the scent adequately)

Thanks again for the info. Christina
