Between the two towns is a beautiful botanical gardens. The street in Mendocino that fronts the ocean was the setting for the beginning of 'Murder She Wrote', you can see the house that was the opening shot of where 'Jessica' was supposed to live. There are fabulous little shops in both towns, although Willits and Ft. Bragg are the towns average wage earners live in, while the 'rich and famous' tend to live in or on the outskirts of Mendocino. In Mendo there is a GREAT health food store. They have fabulous grade B maple syrup. reallly, realllllly tiny, but tons of stuff. superb tidepools in ft. bragg area, both actually, depends on what you are looking for. Willits has a very good Safeway store, all the fast food places and gets quite warm in the summer. It's about 3.5 to 4 hours to Sacramento, depending on how fast you drive. I haven't been since 1999 and I envy you! ) I went to Ft. Bragg/Mendo every month for 6 years for vacations. What made you choose Willits? It is going to be harder to get away from Sonoma County than I had anticipated. My friend bought a home there and we have been planning to make that move together but I am still so tied up to my job and family here that it may have to wait awhile. I will check out some of the coastal areas for shopping and sightseeing. I may retire there if I can figure it out. I may just do this on my own because I have been by myself so long that I just don’t like being in someone else’s house. I have been my own woman for a long time now and I don’t like the sound of commitment. Lol I love camping at Lake Pillsbury and my son lives in Potter Valley, but I loved the atmosphere in Willits. I sort of miss the flavor of N. Calif....lived in Hawaii for 6 years and now been an Okie/ Tex for quite a while. Yep, love those little country health food stores...now, they have some good oils and herbs! I have a couple of months to decide to let it all go and go enjoy that atmosphere up there. I have been with my family forever but now they are grown men and women with their own lives. My sons and I have lived in Sonoma County for most of their lives and it will be so sad to part company. Part of me feels guilty and part wants to go right away. I woke up at 2 am last night and couldn't go back to sleep until 5 am. The only way to solve my problem is to turn it all over to God. He always knows just what to do.
