Guest guest
I must say It was an interesting experiance. I'd like to preface this by saying, I do NOT like spiders... of any shape or form... but there is just enough " scientific curiosity " in this tired old dead brain of mine to recognize an opportunity that couldn't be missed. I took the baby out tonight for a quick walk when I heard the neighbor bellowing/shrieking for her husband... being a nosy neighbor I went to see what the fuss was about. In the middle of the garage floor was the largest furry spider I had ever seen in me life! I'm guessing it was a tarantula and pictures from the net have confirmed it... The big brave men were just as squeamish as the women so... I walked up to it, (fit in the palm of me hand) and touched it's front leg, at which point it reared at me... that was un nerving... then I tried to lift it up with a 20 dollar bill, but it wasn't solid enough so I had to use me hand... I can't believe it, but I did. Did you know they have claws? It started climbing up my arm and I could feel them through me shirt... I wasn't very happy at that point but not wanting to hurt the spider I tried to gently flick it off into a bowl... It climbed Higher... I was even more unhappy... but I finally got it into the bowl, it is now in me daughters bug box. The neighbors boy (one of the " Brave Crowd " ) wants to take it in for extra credit... So we've just printed about a bunch of Tarantual info which I'm now going to give it the neighbors. I'd like to see " Hector " (me daughter has namned him) be able to go back into the wild... Like I said, It was a once in a lifetime opportunity and not one I'm eager to repeat! I now have the SERIOUS willies! ROFLMAO! Although... the husband told me that I am now his hero! ROFLMAO!!! Guest guest
Do I hear a story of inspiration for a Spider Woobey - in time for Halloween? I took my boys to the Butterfly Pavilion here in metro Denver 2 weeks ago, and they have a tarantula " Rosie " that one of the Pavilion caretakers lets walk across visitors hands, and then you get an " I held Rosie " sticker .. so I held Rosie, my 3 yr old Sean held Rosie and even 6 month old baby JJ held Rosie (twice). My husband on the other hand did NOT hold Rosie and even took horrible pictures of the boys holding Rosie cause he was too busy trying to run away from Rosie (he's 6'3 " , over 200 lbs, ex military, but I have to save him from little - and big - spiders ;-p *lol*) Nite nite, have a great weekend folks. Sweet spider dreams to all *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com WoobeyQueen [WoobeyQueen] Friday, September 12, 2003 10:12 PM Well. Guest guest
Is that a new Indian name for Kathleen?! Insane Woman I like it!! Kathleen you are wackadoo. When we went to Mexico (every summer as youngsters) there were places up in the mountains where the tarantulas were large as dinner plates. You only ever saw them in the late evening/middle of the night. They didn't tend to go into homes, we would spot them in the roads as we drove to/from destinations. Once in a while you were unfortunate enough to run one over - you felt the bump. Ugh. I couldn't ever look back - thought they were ugly, gave me the willies, but I'd still feel too remorseful and guilty to see them hurt. I know they have 'feelings' and I'm sure he/she was just defending themselves rearing up at you. Hope it makes it back to the wild free and safe. Guest guest
Hey Kathleen, > Like I said, It was a once in a lifetime > opportunity and not one I'm eager to > repeat! I now have the SERIOUS willies! > ROFLMAO! Although... the husband told > me that I am now his hero! ROFLMAO!!!<<< Ya done great girl! Willies afterwards is alright. Ya gotta keep your head on your shoulders during any kind of situation then break down!!! ----------------------------- I remember when I was stationed at West Point Military Academy in NY that my son was visiting at friends and got bit by a snake. Now I did not know that he had been bitten only that he was late home. I went looking and walked into the following scene: My son sitting on the back porch holding a towel to his foot trying to get the attention of the adults. His friend crying and screaming and two big stron Air Force tech sergeants flipping through a friggin book trying to find out if the snake that had bit my son was poisonous or not. They did not even know what kind of snake it was!!! But it seems my son did....he knew he wasn't in any danger...but the adults didn't so in their infinite wisdom would not let him leave....nor did they rush him to the emergency room! Want to talk angry, mad, royally pissed off! Yep that was me. They had killed the snake. I walked over to look at it. Would ya believe it was a plain old green snake, the garden variety that had never in my life time caused any problems around my house. My son had stepped on it while playing. Hey anything stepped on is going to protect itself! I started laughing, took my son and went to the local walk in clinic. He had to have 3 stitches and a tetnus shot.
