Guest guest
A customer just left a couple of minutes ago. He has a request for a massage oil that has coconut, mango and some other oil to make a nice smelling, light weight oil. Now I am not good at making up the carrier oils at all. Questions: 1. Can the mango be done like Chris did the pineapple? 2. If so, would it work with the VCO that Chris did the co-op on? 3. What other oil like maybe fractionated coconut oil, sweet almond, kukui nut oil etc would work with this to make a very nice, easy gliding massage oil? My idea is to use Mango's, VCO and Kukui nut oil....or Sweet Almond, VCO and Kukui nut oil and then figure out some eo's to come up with the mango aroma. Any ideas - I really need help with this please. TIA, Cheryl ===== Cheryl Smith A Heavenly Body 204 Muldoon Road Anchorage AK 99504

So he doesn't need it very strong smelling since it is for massage and generally massage blends are used over large areas of the body and need not be too smelly (or they get overpowering). Am I correct in my assumption? > > Now I am not good at making up the carrier oils > at all. Oh, you sell your talents short > > Questions: > > 1. An alcohol extract won't do you too much good for making a massage oil with any oil cause an alcohol extract will separate out of an oil blend To get mango properties you could use mango butter, but mango butter doesn't smell like mango fruit ... > 3. The VCO could be a nice part of a massage oil and help you get a " tropical " scent going on, kukui nut and macadamia nut oil come to mind for that hawaiian oils blend. Rice bran oil and grapeseed oil are both " light oils " too ... > > My idea is to use Mango's, VCO and Kukui nut > oil....or Sweet Almond, VCO and Kukui nut oil and > then figure out some eo's to come up with the > mango aroma. It is still in the high 50's to mid 60's. I haven't really noticed the leaves. Ya know, people in the lower 48 think of snow when they think of Alaska. We normally have less snow than the lower 48 does. I have seen worse snow along the Lakes in NY and OH. Plus that is wet snow and it is very cold there. Up here, it is a dry snow and seems warmer to me. That is without a wind. Add winds then I get cold. We are still walking around in shirt sleeves, shorts and sandals. It seems the first snow is usually between Oct 15 and Halloween. > > Have a great holiday weekend! > > *Smile* > Chris (list mom) > http://www.alittleolfactory.com Hope yours is enjoyable as well. ===== Cheryl Smith A Heavenly Body 204 Muldoon Road Anchorage AK 99504
Guest guest
When I took a Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massage class years ago, we used virgin coconut oil...so I'd just add your scent oil of choice. The VCO is the best oil for massage, because it heats up so well in your hands and doesn't dissipate rapidly on the skin....so you don't have to add more as often. Wasn't it too greasy? Did you feel like you needed a shower after the massage was done using just the VCO? That's my catch-22 with this. It needs to be as non-greasy as possible but still smell tropical. I know I am trying to recreate the wheel by doing this myself when I can go out and by a base that someone else formulated but it is fun to do the trial and error. Once I get the base down then I will work on the scent. I think Ylang Ylang will be one of the ingredients but we will see. Guest guest
No not for me. It will always be my choice for massage. You need to experiment and see what is best for you. Like I said the coconut heats up and that's what you want in massage. Also I hate having to redip for more massage cream so often. With the VCO you don't have to. Besides it's great for your skin. Guest guest
Cheryl, I just bought some Monoi de Tahiti Oil and picked it up yesterday. It has the best scent I've smelled in an oil. I just rubbed some on my arm and it feels wonderful. How long it will stay, I don't know, but it doesn't feel greasy. Just a thought for you. Guest guest
Thanks Diana..... Here is what I made up: 4 oz S. Almond 2 oz VCO 1 oz Macadamia Nut 1 oz Kukui Nut I thought at first it was greasy feeling but it stays on the skin enough to give a good massage but absorbs too....really different feeling. Smells like coconuts....now to come up with an eo synergy to add.. Thanks to all those that helped with this project. Cheryl --- Diana of Dewberry Hill <cozad76078 wrote: > No not for me. Guest guest
Hi Cheryl, That sounds like a very nice blend I do find that the VCO in particular absorbs very nicely. Quickly, but no too fast. I use it to massage the kids when they come out of the bath tub. The baby seems to like the scent and my older son (4 next month) walks around for hours saying " smell me, I smell like a coconut " The massage keeps them happy and healthy (and dare I say calm ;-p) and the VCO keeps their skin well hydrated and oh so soft! *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com , Cheryl Smith <female_tigress> wrote: > Here is what I made up: > > 4 oz S. Guest guest
That blend sounds wonderful. I like a lavender/ rose oil scent...but I'm sure there are many good ones. I'm a beginner in scent mixing. Do also try just the plain VCO (with scent of chaoice added) and see if it lasts longer without having to reapply as you massage. That is what I was taught in massage class. Diana of Dewberry Hill Cheryl said: Thanks Diana..... Here is what I made up: 4 oz S. Next time I place an order I will see if I can get some. That might be a nice addition or maybe just with the VCO. Who knows. This is an experiment for one of my customers. I am having great fun with it. Much more so than when some asked me to create the smell of Leather. I had loads of help from the Natural Perfumery list and lots of info online but never did like the results. I am still working on that one but it has become 'work' not fun. Again thanks. It did stay long enough to do the 30 minute massage though. Guess it is like everything else - depends on the person. Guest guest
Ladies- In my book, you can't BEAT Fractionated CO for massage. Good slip without being greasy, doesn't stain fabric. IT is what we use in all our massage blends, and we sell quite a bit of it to local massage therapists. Best wishes- Lynda Cheryl Smith wrote: > Diana, > > >>I'm a beginner in scent mixing. Guest guest
Hey Lynda, That is true and that is what I recommend to therapists. This blend was for a specific person that wanted it to smell Tropical without being overly greasy. I still have to come up with a good tropical eo blend. He says if possible, smelling like 'mangos'. Personally I have no idea what a mango smells like. Hope you are doing good and that the upcoming un-conf will give you a nice break to visit with all the wonderful people coming there. Guest guest
Hey Diana, No actually I used the mix I posted earlier and used about the same. Just poured about a 50 cent size amount in my hands.....now I only did the back, shoulders, neck and arms. It had great slide to it but was not overly greasy afterwards. I am going to use it tonight on my SO and see what he says about the difference between the two of them. Cheryl --- Diana of Dewberry Hill <cozad76078 wrote: > Ok, so I'm up to experimenting, too.
