Guest guest
Well.. this has certainly been an experience. No power. No water. Ugh! Power went down at 4 p.m. Thursday. My power came back up at 9 p.m. Friday, and my internet connection (and cable tv) didn't come back until 3 p.m. Saturday. Have I ever mentioned how much I love my air conditioner? :-) Thanks for the prayers everyone! -- Sandy (in Detroit)

Guest guest
Sandy, Sure do know where thats at. I from the westside, as you are, Out near Redford. When I was 10 we moved to Wyoming and SchoolCraft. After getting out of grade school, 8th grad. We all spread out all over the city for high school. I went to Girls Catholic Central. Going in the morning I took the Schoolcraft To Woodward bus. Then Woodward to can't remember the name of the street. Going home most of the time I would go Woodward to downtown, then Grand River to Oakman, a short little bus ride from there. After I go married we went back to Redford. I sure miss Hudsons. Guest guest
Chris you are so sweet to worry about everyone, I thought I'd share our story..... Our power came back on line friday at about 3.30. By that time all my food in my tiny freezer had defrosted, lol. So there I was friday night cooking 12 pork chops, 5 lbs of stewing beef and 3 lbs of minced beef...Most of which I have managed to refreeze. The kids thought it was a blast, I read them a book by candle light and became a hero, lol. the past few nights since the blackout, I have had to Turn off the lights and read by candle light, because the kids though it was cool... I had been sick for 2 days before the blackout, so I had been putting off, going out to the grocery store. So On friday, I had no food in the house, very little gas and no cash ( use my bank card too much). I checked in with all my neighbours, and found an area of the city that had power and off we went. The grocery store was mobbed, No bread could be found anywhere. Line ups at the cash register were taking at least 45 minutes to get through. We passed a gas station and I swear there were a hundred cars waiting to get in, seemed everyone was thrown in a panic. I was really happy, that while standing in line waiting to get out of the grocery store, people, strangers were chatting and joking with each other and the overall mood was great. I commented to a owman that I didn't get any bread and she gave me one of hers ( she had 2). So, when we have another blackout, I'm not going to worry, as long as I have my book, candles and my kids, then it will all work out. And to see Mars in the sky was a special treat, hasn't been seen around Toronto since the 70's. So, while its great to finally be back on line, I may lie and tell my children a few times a year that the power is out, so we can have some special fun together again.
