Guest guest
Chris - You said your computer at work got infected. Does anyone have any info about how it may/will affect personal pcs? All I can read up is that if your machine is acting sluggish it might be it. Also, that you don't see it enter your machine. Did your company go to windowsupdate to get the patch for the virus? I am wondering if I should be concerned. MS runs my internet platform and I have XP. Dale
Guest guest
Hi Dale, It consumes memory space and makes your computer just totally freeze and then re-boot itself and keeps doing it and other stupid stuff that is just a headache and a half ... Yes, you should be concerned - You have to get a free patch at the Microsoft site ... here's the link .. http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.asp Happy worming I'll be doing this patch on my home PC when I get home tonight. I also updated my anti-virus software last night at home. Here at work the IT Dept took the server offline and did a network patch a little bit ago. *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com , " Dale Bernucca " <DBernucca@n...> wrote: > Chris - > > You said your computer at work got infected. Guest guest
It will make it reboot over and over. It is my understanding that each time it reboots, it sends the worm again. Another thing is that the worm is made to take over all the bandwith your system is capable of and you cannot get online to get a virus scan to rid of the virus. There are some good scans online. I managed to get rid of the worm day before yesterday (just before all the warnings because I knew something was wrong with the system and my firewall kept requesting for an unfamiliar ip addy to get into my system. I did get the worm out, but it sure scared me. This computer is only 3 months old. I went straight to Microsoft's site and downloaded the security updates. So far so good. IMHO, Anyone who has XP or anything other than ME should run, not walk, to a reliable virus scanning program online. I can recommend one if anyone needs the site. Guest guest
I have Norton, but I've neglected to 'renew'. It came with my Dell. Should I renew it NOW or is there something better out there? Someone told me about 'Watchdog' last year but I don't know if that helps in this situation. If you can recommend something to purchase and download now from internet I'd appreciate it. Renew immediately and keep those virus signatures up to date. :-) -- Sandy
Guest guest
I've had really good luck with Panda in removing the latest worm from my system and several trojans from my Husband's PC. They were really busy yesterday, but I'd keep trying. You can have a free scan online, or you can purchase the AV program online. Note: If you use their free scan, then purchase, it is almost 1/2 price. http://www.pandasoftware.com The usual disclaimers apply here. I don't have any of their stock, don't work for them, but do like what their software can do. Guest guest
Hey Dale and everyone else, I know that my SO was running Percillin and I run Norton that I always keep update. He seldom if ever updated Percillin. He got this virus and every other one that was around previously, but I have (knock on wood) never had one because Norton has always caught it when I was opening my email or opening a download. Norton tries to repair it then quarantines it. I then go delete it. I highly recommend it.
