Guest guest
Milk? Patchouli? guess it's all relative..haha And, Butch, you've probably already guessed that my bottle of catnip was in a square, clear bottle. Yes, it was promptly replaced. And patchouli was the one oil I didn't think of to mask catnip. Geez, patchouli would mask anything, that's for sure. Christy - Butch Owen Friday, July 18, 2003 7:55 PM Catnip: Yum Yum ;-p Was: Ewwwwww! Hey Christy, > Too funny about the catnip! I, too, thinks it reeks. Yep .. but not as bad as milk or Patchouli .. or New York subways. ;-p > And some of you have read my previous posts that I had a l oz bottle > of catnip break in shipment to my house. Was it replaced? Some bottles aren't as stong as others. Round and colored bottles are usually pretty strong. ;-)

Great reason to put each bottle in a zip lock bag or some sort - huh? > As I'm picking through it all, the aroma is quickly filling the house! Volatile fer'shur. > House smelled of catnip for a while....didn't see many bugs during > that time, tho. Good show. Expensive way to do it .. but effective. ;-p > Reading all the research that it's such a wonderful bug repellent was > encouraging, then after smelling it, I couldn't fathom putting it on > my skin. Don't gotta put it on your skin .. I don't. Its a repellent so putting it on clothing works well. That's why I recommend it be used with Fractionated Coconut .. its non-staining and washes out completely. > Great, it keeps the critters away, but would repel everybody ELSE, > also! We'll probably have a run on it now .. lots of folks would like to repell lots of other folks. > I didn't even bother trying to mask the scent, I just mixed it up with > some other bug-repeling oils and sprinkled it OUTside around my doors > and windows. Cheaper to use DEET for that purpose. ;-) > I would think citrus oils would improve it, but, then, you wouldn't > want to put that on your skin. Most any oil will improve it .. and you don't gotta put it on skin. > Butch's ideas sound good, but I'm not terribly fond of the smell of > those oils, either. Use Patchouli .. it will mask it easy. ;-9 > So if anybody comes up with a skin-safe blend that doesn't stink, but > includes catnip, I'd love to hear it! Christy I believe you will get some recommendations .. but since you don't like the odor of Catnip odds are they won't work less'n there is no Catnip in the blend. Some folks don't mind the odor .. some do .. some say its better after a few minutes. I can still smell it after a few minutes but it doesn't smell bad to me then. Bear grease works well too .. First Americans used it effectively. Also kept cooties out of the hair. ;-p Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com
