Unfortunately I missed his speech. I'm going to try to catch it on CSPAN or somewhere later tonight or later in the week. I'm sure somebody will be re-airing it. > I respect Tony Blair .. The Brits -- and indeed the world -- will be the worse for it if he does. -- Sandy

Guest guest
Hi y'all, Prime Minister Tony Blair just finished a 40 minute speach to a joint session of the US Congress. If you missed it .. you missed one of the finest speaches I have heard in many, many years. The man is an outstanding speaker .. his messages were dynamic and inspiring and sincere. He received standing ovations upon entering and many times during his presentation. And he has been awarded the United States Congressional Medal of Freedom. He emphasized that terrorism was a virus intent on destroying the world. He commented that we could not win that war with weapons only .. we must use our ideals as well. He pointed out that the United States needs to minimize the differences between itself and Europe .. and I agree. He stated that the United States had an obligation to lead but also we must listen .. and I agree with that too. Many of the profound statements he made will be remembered, I'm sure, for years to come .. one will probably make it into the textbooks. That is .. that the United States has obligations because we have been placed by time and events in a leadership position .. it is our mission and we must accept it and accomplish it. I respect Tony Blair .. I think he is a sincere and intelligent leader and a dynamic speaker who reaches out to the listeners. He might be punished by his own Parliament but I think he has won the hearts and minds of the American people .. and I hope the British take this into consideration as it is not a small accomplishment. A poll by the Pew Research Center found that Mr. Blair was the world leader Americans trusted most (Mr. Bush ranked second), respected by 83 percent of Americans, and he was also highly esteemed in countries as diverse as Australia and Nigeria. Y'all keep smiling. Butch
