Guest guest
Hey Deb, Chris .. other good folks. > Chris, > I have never lived in TX but have visited often enough (relatives > strewn all over the state!! I lived twice in El Paso .. which is not as nice as Houston .. but it was still pretty danged nice living. That area has something known as El Paso rain .. and it ain't wet. Dust will sneak right through the window panes. ;-p Houston is not like that. > The cost of living in Houston is a lot cheaper than most > metropolitan areas and they do have great restaurants Agree .. I've visited there a few times. Lots of military retirees in the area too. Wanna find good and inexpensive living look for lots of military retirees. > -- not as good as NYC, SF, New Orleans or Chicago of course -- but > still very good. I like Texas cookin' a big better than most'a them cities .. New Orleans of course is an adventure unto itself. :-) > And almost anything will grow there! Dang betcha on that. Chris gonna be getting fresh veggies she has not seen in Colorado .. they got'em in Colorado but they were shipped in. And .. she gonna have to learn to cook collards .. if'n she don't know. Celery and onions and lettuce from the Rio Grande Valley is super nice. > The humidity is high and it rarely hits freezing even in the coldest > freezing even in the coldest winters. Yep .. gets a bit windy now and then but folks have learned how to live with that. Padre Island is not far .. good place that is. And Chris, you gonna get to eat stuff asides Colorado beef and elk and buffalo. You gotta learn lots of recipes for shrimp, crab, fresh seafish, Texas beef and Bar-Be-Que .. and folks will fight you over their chili like a Suthran boy will over his coon dawg. Oh yea .. gotta learn how to cook armadillo too. They're sorta like Suthran possums .. some'a the Yankee tourists think they are born dead on the side of the road. ;-p > I wish you all the best on your move. Same here .. I believe it was Kathleen wrote she wouldn't trade Colorado for Texas .. but I would .. in a heart beat. Kathleen lives in veggie country .. that San Jose valley is a veggie paradise .. and probably 90% of the world's supply of articoks comes from within a 50 mile radius of there .. but living along that California coast is mighty expensive .. been there twice .. lived in Monterey .. and don't miss it either. History buffs know that Texas and true Texicanos have a very glorious history. Every inch of that land was won with blood, sweat and tears. Likely it is that no state in the Union had more of a difficult time coming in to being .. though Kentucky is running a close second and Ohio is hanging in there too. Used to be .. probably still is .. that younguns were required to take conversational Spanish in Texas grammar schools. I think that's good. My younguns liked it and even studied on their own. You'll also find that real Texicanos are not all WASP .. that's another important part of the history. :-) > Blessings, > Deb Agree fer'shur. Chris gotta learn to speak Suthran Texican .. don't them folks ain't gonna understand her. I recommend she start practicing now .. get 6-7 marbles and keep'em in her mouth all day whilst tawking. Chris .. you gonna like it. Take that to the bank. Houston is in the right location. Congratulations on your good fortune. :-) Y'all keep smiling.
