Chris,

I have never lived in TX but have visited often enough (relatives strewn all

over the state!!). The cost of living in Houston is a lot cheaper than most

metropolitan areas and they do have great restaurants -- not as good as NYC, SF,

New Orleans or Chicago of course -- but still very good.

And almost anything will grow there! The humidity is high and it rarely hits

freezing even in the coldest winters.

I wish you all the best on your move.

Blessings,

Deb

Being a 'misplaced' Texan (we are living in PA right now), we lived in Houston

from '73 thru '76. It is a VERY large city now. Spread out as most Texas

cities are. I loved Houston and hated the weather. You could find anything you

wanted/needed there. I even had a shop there for a while, all hand made

clothing, before my soap-making days. At the time our son qualified for one

of the Magnum programs (advanced art and in his case gymnastic programs). And

as everyone has said, the wages in Houston are good (compared to much of the

rest of Texas). We return to the Homeland once a year and sometimes fly into

Houston then head for Central Texas, the Hill Country where I have friends and

family still, or the Big Bend for a photo shoot.

You will find all kinds of interesting things to do within a 200 mile radius

(including New Orleans....talk about great food!).

Best of luck with your move. Health and Happiness to your family.

yep, Texas Cooking is right up there at the top of the list of reasons to

live in Texas.......another one (for me) is the music, that's what got me here

and what kept me here. It will be nice to have you as a neighbor

(Houston might be 200 miles away from Spicewood....but, that still considered

'neighbors' by Texas standards! margie
