Guest guest
Hubby's job is moving to Houston, so we gotta move with it. Cost of living there is less than here, and it happens to be the 4th largest city in the country as opposed to Denver which is barely out from being a cow town but somehow became as expensive as major cities in California ;-p For what my current house here in Denver is worth I can get something twice the size in Houston, with a big master bathroom and an in ground pool even! There are other plusses - as far as income tax goes - there is no state withholdings, and Houston doesn't tax all food groceries like Denver area does (even in NYC they didn't tax food!) Houston has higher than average wages - even for metropolitan areas, and the area we are looking to get a house in has really high rated schools. Plus I hear the food there is far better than the food here (and that's not hard - coming from NYC I am not at all impressed with Denver cuisine ;-p) Also, I am hoping that following the trend of lower living costs and lower real estate costs that commercial real estate is a bit less expensive there than it is here, so maybe I can actually get a store front. Its rough in Denver to get a store front in a decent location for a reasonable price. Oh, and I very much look forward to the long growing season and subtropical climate .. here we get friggin snow at the end of May and in the beginning of September, and its so darn dry too. It can be hard to grow stuff here (even my houseplants haven't thrived here like they did when I was in NY) ... so I am looking at all the bright sides of this .... So... as soon as this house sells (and it'll officially be on the market next week) we're going .. " deep in the heart of Texas " ... well, to the coast anyway ... ;-p *Smile* Chris http://www.alittleolfactory.com WoobeyQueen [WoobeyQueen] Wednesday, July 16, 2003 4:05 PM Re: Milk Piggy and Clan (Was RE: 3D Soap Molds?) Guest guest
Hi Chris, I sincerely hope you are looking at the bright side of having to move from Denver (and maybe you were somewhat affected by our current heat wave?)as I was a bit offended by some of your statements about our fair city. All I will say is that I liked Denver better when it was a cow town and I wouldn't trade it for any other city in the USA. Having been raised as a military brat, I saw a fair amount of the country as a youngster, but Denver is where my heart and home is. Wishing you all the best in your new home. I enjoy this list that you started. There are so many knowledgeable people here who contribute a wealth of information. Thanks.
