Hi y'all,

There are some new folks on the list so I will repeat some info .. and

some of the info will be news for those who have been around a while.

On 24 June I returned from the Rose Fields of Isparta, Turkey for the

annual harvest/distillation. Took lotsa great photos. Made a side

trip to a mountain village where an old feller and his two sons still

distill Rose Otto in the manner it was done many hundreds of years ago.

Quite an operation as everything used in the process was hand-made. But

they are not producing the Rose Otto folks in Aromatherapy would want to

use. That Rose Otto is only produced via hydrodistillation with

controlled temperatures.

I'll do a write up on that soon .. with photos .. and it'll be on the

site along with the other aromatic trips through Turkey.

I also visited a French factory this time. There are two in Isparta ..

both belong to parent companies in France. They will never have Rose

Hydrosol because they do TWO cohobations. They distill a third time to

get that 1/2 percent of Rose Oil remaining. Its for perfumery - but the

folks in AT might accidently buy some from time to time .. not from me!

Plus .. they use the residue from the concrete production a second time.

They dry it out and then use it again .. get what they call a 2d quality

Concrete from which they draw a 2d quality Absolute. Again, this is for

perfume .. but it answers questions that were recently asked on another

list .. and sorta dampens the praise some put on one company that is

precise enough to offer 1st and 2d quality Rose products. There should

be NO 1st or 2d quality Rose Otto, Rose Absolute or Hydrosol produced by

any company supplying the Aromatherapy trade. They're not targeting AT.

I was just advised today that Rose Otto will be MUCH higher this year

and I was able to acquire ONLY 1,200 kilograms (roughly 330 gallons) of

Rose Hydrosol .. also at a MUCH higher price than I have ever paid

before. Last year I was able to get 3,000 kilos. There will be no

more Rose Hydrosol this year .. it was sold before it was produced.

For a couple of weeks now I have pushed the distillers to send my full

barrels of Rose Hydrosol .. but they were waiting for the final meeting

to determine the prices. Today I demanded they send it and to hell with

the prices because I must have it .. and I am not in a position to be

able to negotiate because I have some that was already promised to other

companies.

This has been a long time in coming. As is the case with many natural

products .. the days of cheap Rose Otto and Rose Hydrosol are now

history.

This will apply to prices of Bulgarian Rose products too .. distillers

in Bulgaria and Turkey have been visiting each other.

So what it means to me is I will pay more .. and end-users will pay more

and there will be no bargains .. none .. not anywhere. If you find such

a bargain and it appears to be too good to be true .. it will be! :-(

Y'all keep smiling, Butch http://www.AV-AT.com
