Guest guest
Karen J, I responded to a few privately too. My big advice on Ginger Root? Start it INDOORS! The problem I've had with starting ginger is mold. Start it half burried in a shallow pot of soil (I've even used a flat tupperware container). I'd recomend steril soil. Water it every few days, and let it dry out a bit. It may take a few months to start. First it grows roots and it looks like nothing is happening. I was about to throw it out the first time, but I realized it was stuck in the pot. Then a shoot started going up. Once it's growing it seems pretty hardy, yet other things think Ginger Root is tasty too! Yes, get FRESH plump root, no withering! Make sure it has good 'eyes' the lighter spots, that's where the shoots will come from. In the garden I bury the root, so it doesn't burn. But that's after it has some nice green stalks on top. Hope it helps, David Roman david
