Guest guest
<Does anyone have any suggestions as to a blend of oils to use as an insect repellant? What could one use as a base/carrier so that this could be sprayed on animals (horses)? Obviously catnip oil would be one choice because of all the horrible mosquito borne diseases abounding, but what could be added to this?> Meri, I use a little alcohol (calendula tincture), mixed in with some Aloe Vera Gel in a spray bottle because I don't like the oil on my skin in the hot summer. To this I add essential oils such as Geranium, Patchouli, Atlas Cedar, Lemon Tea Tree (Leptospermum petersonii), and, of course, Catnip. I generally use a 2% dilution. This is intended for people only. The spray is cooling on the skin, but doesn't last as long as an oil based lotion (I think). My spray is effective for about 2 hours - AND I don't know about which EO's to use with animals.
