Hi y'all,

Somebody asked:

> Can someone explain me what's ''Lavender 40/42''?????

Yep .. can do I reckon. Somewhere along the line somebody (probably in

the perfumery industry) decided that the perfect odor for Lavandula

angustifolia was 40% Linalool and 42% Linalool acetate. And they used

it at that percentage in their perfume blends. Understanding that the

art of perfumery is really a science to the big commercial folks .. when

a good recipe is determined they want to use the same one over and over

each year.

BUT .. the Great Spirit didn't necessarily go along with that. Spirit

doesn't allow the same growing conditions year in and year out and those

who understand the nature of agriculture and wild-grown aromatics know

that there will be great variations in the percentages of chemicals in a

given aromatic plant from year to year.

The Perfumeries get around this by manipulating the natural oil .. like

putting creme in your coffee .. they add whatever percentage of Linalool

or Linalool acetate necessary to make what they consider to be a perfect

blend .. 40/42.

Its not unheard of for them to add naturally extracted Linalool and/or

Linalool acetate .. but its unusual cause the synthetic is far cheaper

and they are .. after all .. a business. ;-p

Its my opinion that Lavender 40/42 has no place in Aromatherapy .. for

that matter, nor does any other EO that has been manipulated by man.

That is .. beyond the manipulation of distillation .. which unto itself

is not a natural occurance.

> Thanks for answering!
