Guest guest
Hi Nessie, > Hi, I have only been on this list for a few days, and am so happy to > find a group filled with soo much knowledge and different opinions.. Good show .. wide range of knowledge on here for sure. These folks know herbs and soaps and perfumes and aromatherapy and such .. :-) > I have a question, I am taking an aromatherapy course and well under > Grapefruit oil, my teacher has recorded that grapefruit oil, " Unlike > other citrus oils it is not Phototoxic " ... Not necessarily true .. probably .. but not necessarily. I know of no cases of photosensitization from Grapefuit .. but there are chemical components in grapefruit that are known to be able to cause it. > I thought that all citrus oils were phototoxic....Has anyone else > heard of this??? Steam distilled citrus is not photosensitizing .. expressed or pressed oils generally are. Expressed/pressed Lemon, lime and bergamot are always photosensitizers. But no reports on grapefruit. From Plant Aromatics http://www.av-at.com/plantaromaticsavnp.html A few of the comments on Grapefruit (Citrus paradisi) .. No phototoxicity has been reported, although the presence of psoralens and coumarins in Grapefruit oil has been reported. The I.F.R.A. (1998-12-18) advises that for areas of skin likely to be exposed to sunlight, expressed grapefruit oil should not exceed 4% .. > Thanks > Nessie Welcome fer'shur.
