Butch,

I think we should chip in and get you a type as you talk software. I would love

to have you write a novel about your beloved hills and the people living there!

So much of this culture is dying a slow wicked death. Many seem to be ashamed of

their country and hill ways. They have served me well and passing them on to

mine.

I am sure you have much more to tell and share.

Sincerely,

Jan S

Yo Chris,

Thankee m'am.

I started one .. worked on it on and off for 4-5 years with a Remington

Selectric III .. back afore I knew how to turn on a PC. Had lots of

great photos and captions. Let it slide to the side when I came back to

Turkey in 1988. Got reams of manuscript still .. but just no time left

in the day to deal with it again.

Wouldn't have been a best seller for sure .. but ex-soldiers and ex-pats

would have enjoyed it as it named lots of names, dates and events. Told

the inside story on some events in history that are yet untold .. and

because I was a Regular Army officer during most of the events, I would

have to get Department of Defense clearance on it .. I'm still and will

always be subject to the jurisdiction of the United States Army and the

Uniform Code of Military Justice.

Was a time I believed I needed to leave something behind .. I believe in

history as an invaluable part of society and progress. But at the same

time, I think I was also trying to record a little bit of glory .. and

that's not so important to me now. Folks who have climbed this and that

mountain bore folks who live in flatlands .. and might easily bore those

who have climbed mountains too.

Name was Seeing the Elephant. Not half bad I reckon. :-) Butch
