" Folks from various lists are always dropping by to see us in beautiful downtown Friendsville, population 539 .. 540 when I visit. I'm serious y'all .. they do .. feller even came from Paris (France not Tennessee) once cause he I had told him so much about the town. He and his wife thought the local bar (only bar in town) was the coolest most American thing they'd ever experienced .. and they had come from New York City to visit Friendsville. I'm happy to announce that starting today Appalachian Valley Natural Products is moving again .. for the second time in 18 months. Got too big for our britches. Bigger place came available so I jumped on it. Moving up one street .. from Walnut to Maple Street (which folks call Main Street). Got two shops side-by-side .. the whole downstairs of an ancient building and on the main drag. Since Friendsville only has 2-3 drags being on the main drag ain't that bigga thing till the tourists show up for the annual white-water rafting tournaments and then later, for the winter snow ski season. ;-) We're gonna have 150% more space now .. which will (I hope) allow me to set it up so the ladies there will have the room and the what-for to work smarter instead of harder cause they are out of time now .. we are happily swamped with orders daily and in a town that size there is not an abundance of available labor. Friendsville is an OLD town settled by one of the first folks to cross the Appalachians .. John Friend. He bought land from the Shawnee .. and that is a switch for sure. US Gummit maintains a small museum there for John Friend's historical items and other interesting pioneer and Shawnee articles. On the hill above the town stands a Shawnee Medicine Lodge. The land the Shawnee occupy was sold to them for $1 by a person who I respected to the max .. Pappy Ross (RIP) .. one of the last of the real Eastern Mountain Men .. and the father of my manager at Appalachian Valley Natural Products, Margaret Collins. Friendsville is in a green valley, cut by a whitewater river, surrounded by the beautiful Appalachian Mountains, and just off Highway 68 in that little finger between West ByGawd Virginie and Pennsylvania. Garrett County it is .. and real close to Deep Creek Lake Resort. As for whitewater rafting .. the Youghiogheny River is a Class V River. Annually the Whitewater Classic is held on the Upper Yough where the river's descent is over 1000 ft within seven miles of a ten mile run. Rapids with names like Cheeseburger, Pencil Sharpener, Meatcleaver, Little Niagra, and National Falls will get your blood pumping fer'shur! Whitewater season runs from April through October .. then skiing starts. Quiet little place Friendsville .. you can hear a pin drop at midnight. Folks can't wait for the Fire Department to do their weekly thing trying out their sirens and such. If you want noise, you just gotta drive a few miles to Morgantown, West ByGawd Virginie. Wild Turkey all over the place in Friendsville .. pecking in gardens and such. Canadian Geese and ducks stay year around .. raise younguns there they do. Deer abound and folks keep trash cans locked down cause the black bears come down at night to get a snack if they can. Around 100 yards from our shop is the Yough River .. fulla Rainbow Trout! Also we have Bear Creek there .. folks go there to dip their feet and meditate. Here's some shots of Friendsville .. we'll be on there soon. http://www.hardingsginsengfarm.com/friend.htm The shot of Main St. (Prijon Kayaks & Museum) is where we're moving to. The shot of Wihinape Health Food Store is where I started the company. Its the oldest building in town .. around 125 years old now .. owned by Jim Naeseth .. mountain folks call him " Dr. Jim. " Anyhow .. just figgered I'd pass it along cause a couple of folks have said they're swinging down that way pretty soon. Hard to get lost in Friendsville but this info might save you a minute or two. ;-p Phone, fax, email and all that good stuff will remain the same. Website will have the new address soon. Y'all come see us now .. ya hear? And y'all keep smiling, Butch :-) http://www.AV-AT.com Bulk/Wholesale/Retail GC Tested EO, Rose Otto, Hydrosols and other nice things shipped to your from our shop in Friendsville, MD .. pop 539.5 To visit the Rose Fields of Turkey and other aromatic sites in Turkey http://www.av-at.com/distillation/rosadamascena1.html http://www.av-at.com/stuff/triptoturkey.html http://193.110.88.40/~aromamedical/articles/rosedistillation.htm
