OT: The American Soldier ** As Seen by a Time Correspondent

That's a fact .. having lived around the world I'm able to compare. If

we even include those who follow Buddhism in the comparison America will

come out amongst the top few in this regard.

The diversity is a valid point, I'm sure. Also, having a new culture

(and there is certainly an American culture regardless of claims of

multi-culturalism in America) with no real ties to the Old World ideas

and cultures helps a bit too. The animosities we find ingrained in many

European and Middle Eastern societies are not found in the USA .. we've

had our share of various religious groups and races having to spend

their time in the barrel .. but they moved onward and upward in time.

This is not the case still today in many other nations. I draw this

conclusion from having read for 30 plus years (my hobby) on the history

of nations .. and having visited them or lived there.

Basically, we haven't had as much time to learn to hate other nations as

they have .. or reasons. We had a Pearl Harbor, an Alamo, a 9/11 and a

few other atrocities commited against us .. but they are small potatoes

when we compare them to the atrocities committed in history .. millions

of folks killed in cities .. no living thing left .. and much of this is

still bouncing around in some of the minds in some of those countries.
