Guest guest
I just wanted to share this with you all and ask your thoughts/comments. At each childbirth class I teach I do a relaxation exercise at the close of the class. I've taught for three years and what happened this week has never happened before. I showed a clip from the Russian Waterbirth experience video. Then I did an exercise that combined mental and physical relaxation. I recently ordered rose and lavender hydrosols from Butch, which I loved, and this was the first time I used it in a class. What I did was to combine some of each hydrosol with very warm, not hot, water in a deep bowl (i.e. cereal, rice). About 2 cups total of the hydrosol and water. The aroma filled the room so quickly but it wasn't overpowering to me at least and neither mom complained. Here's the interesting item: during the relaxation exercise, my phone rang and it is a harsh ring. I usually turn it off during class. I did the same relaxation exercise I've done for the past year, didn't deviate other than the hydrosols being introduced. Both moms claim they never heard the phone ring. Honestly, one mom looked as if she had truly fallen asleep and was annoyed with me for ending the class and waking her up. Usually, these pregnant moms are just appreciative of 20 quiet minutes out of their busy week. This was like a much deeper trance. It almost reminded me of how breastfeeding moms get that content look on their faces from all those lactating hormones being released. I can't wait to try it at the next birth I attend. Am I jumping to a conclusion: that the aroma of the hydrosols (I think lavender is analgesic and rose is calming) can help a mom relax even more so than the power of quiet and peace? Guest guest
Wish you'd found that out before I had Alena (she's a month old tomorrow, can't believe it)! I sure could have used something to help calm me during her labor. I think my midwife and DH would have appreciated the help keeping me calm at times too. ;-) Dale Bernucca wrote: > I recently ordered rose and lavender hydrosols from Butch, which I > loved, and this was the first time I used it in a class.
