Guest guest
WOW! I actually DID get some pictures of those ancient oil carriers up on the web site ... will wonders will never cease? ;-p *Wink* Chris (list mom - needing a cup of something with caffeine Salt, Salt and More Salt <http://www.alittleolfactory.com> http://www.alittleolfactory.com Butch Owen [butchbsi] Sunday, May 04, 2003 8:30 PM OT Amphora ** Was: Essendulum Hey y'all, > Those blown glass amphoras are really cute too! Ships often ran aground in that rough area. Amphora were the common vessels for transporting liquids then and the trade in olive and other oil was a mainstay of the Mediterranean countries. The amphora remain where they are because the penalities for bringing one up are too great .. and their value is too small to take the risk. There are still many ancient cities to be excavated in Turkey .. they can't get to all of them in the next 1,000 years. Example - 3 years ago Ephesus celebrated the 100th anniversary of organized diggings there .. Ephesus is a magnificent place to visit .. Ephesus is only 10% excavated. :-) Y'all keep smiling, Butch http://www.AV-AT.com
