Guest guest
Hi, I have been making a water based cream with allantonium (Symphytum officinale) in it. Now I have realised that the allantoinium I have benn using (a white powder) was NOT natural at all (derived from the root) but a synthetic identical product. Gahh, that realy galls me!! BUT - luckily enought I made a tincture from dried root last year, so I can use it in water based creams. But now my Mom whant's a more fat cream for her extremely dry heels, so I thought I make her a balm instead. And since I don't want to use the synthetical allantonium, I wonder if the allantonium in the root can be extracted in an oil infusion? I have read every book I have on herbalism, but found no info on this at all. So heeeellppp!! Fragrant Blessings, Ylva
Guest guest
Hi Ylva Yes you can make an infused oil with comfrey root- it will be quite slimy! You can use the leaf as well. Another good emollient herb is Marshmallow Root- Gotta change a dipe............. Michelle
Guest guest
Ylva, I grow comfrey and infuse the leaves in olive oil and I find the roots work better as a tea. LOVE balms with comfrey infused olive oil. My hubby has some very sore dry spots on his feet and this combo is very soothing. I think you will like it. -Helen - ruby_mama2001 Saturday, April 12, 2003 3:31 AM Comphry (sp??) infusion in oil???
