Guest guest
Thank you all and Butch for your input. A very nice lady from Germany answered my post from another list and I thought I'd pass on her knowledge. Sounds like this is one oil I'll be passing on. She writes: “From what I can see on my old list, it costs about the same as evening primrose oil, and it must be stored in a refrigerator. The German word for what you want is Lorbeeröl. (lore-bear-ool) Roughly. “BTW, it has been banned from use in certain percentages/application since I used it, so you might want to ask before buying. “Two of the components in laurel oil are restricted substances. Safrol (also found in sassafras among other things) due to being carcinogenic; and methyleugenol due to genetic toxicity (interreaction with DNA). The max. concentration of safrol allowed in cosmetics here (and it's only allowed when oils contain safrol naturally) is 0.1%. http://dgmcs.de/news/bgvv-duftoele.pdf “Do I understand exactly what the acute danger of methyleugenol is? No. Beats me how it changes DNA and in what way. It was just enough for me to know that it was restricted, and that I had no way of determining exactly how much safrol was really in the laurel oil I had. There were no MSDS that came with it. So I just figured it best to stay on the safe side. HTH Tara - <TrendsJody <seifenkuenstler Thursday, April 10, 2003 1:45 PM Re: HUILE DE LAURIER > Thank you for the lead and I will follow up on it. Makes sense, and certainly fits the info Jody provided and what little I found via Google. Think I'll pass on trying it though. A 40 foot container is a bit much to fit in my apartment.
