Guest guest
Hi Jonee, >You said " Glycerin in particular can be beneficial to the skin, as >long as you are not in a dry climate. " > >Can you expound on that, or maybe post a link or two where I can >learn more? I would do searches on google for some info. Unfortunetly I don't have particular links for you to go check out. I don't tend to save much as far as links and whatnot. >I've heard a few differing opinions on this, and would >like to learn more. Some say if you use very much glycerin in a dry >climate it can actually draw moisture out of your skin because >there's none in the air, others say that's never been proven. (As >with a lot of things, it gets confusing!) It is confusing and I keep searching for answers too. I have done a lot of reading of books and online research. Research that has proven that glycerin can be drying in dry climates I don't have. However, glycerin is hygroscopic and so my take on it is that if it doesn't have moisture in the air to pull into it, then couldn't/wouldn't it pull it from you??? Then again, one more confusing tidbid, I read in one of my cosmetic books that people with dry skin shouldn't use it at all because it is drying in any climate. It is supposed to be geared for people with oily skin. I believe that is the opinion of the auther of " Ageless Natural Beauty " . Okay, but....what about the old rosewater & glycerin lotion for dry skin? Or look at Neutrogena Norwiegen formula hand lotion, water, glycerin, emulsifiers and preservatives. It works on dry hands. I guess I " believe " that glycerin is beneficial in skin care and that it has the potential to be drying and draw on the moisture from your body. I also think that there are more people that think that way as well. This will probably be one of those issues that lingers on and on until research is actually done to either scientifically prove or disprove the whole idea. >Because it's so brutally dry here, I'd like to be better informed >about this. I wish I had something more for you. I could list all the books I've read etc.. and you could read those too. I think since you live where it is dry, you should do some experimenting. Try using a toner with glycerin on one side of your face and on the other use one without. Then see if there is a difference over time. Let me know what you think.
