Guest guest
Hi Kathleen, Thanks for posting this, I really appreciate it! Thanks to everyone for your replies so far. This is so great and it totally helps me keep focused during my boyfriend's deployment. (Constantly staying busy is the only thing that seems to help.) > IF you would like to show your support for the men > and women over in the war > zone, by donating some things that would be REALLY > appreciated, such as > lotions, lip balms, snackies, facial wipes, life-> savors, toiletries, > batteries, sunglasses, eye drops, puzzle books, > Ziploc bags, matches, decks > of cards, mini footballs and basket balls, tooth > brushes, handi wipes, > saline nose spray and more, Yes! Here's a full list: http://images.ibsys.com/c3k-structure/images/docs/ITEMSFORSOLDIERS.doc There's also the sweetest woman in Wisconsin collecting lip balms and lotions for her son's Army group. These guys have chapped, cracked and bleeding lips, so lip balms are especially important. Here's the article about her effort: http://www.channel3000.com/news/1971427/detail.html This is what she wrote me yesterday: >Please accept my apology for not responding sooner. The 20th was a day where my brain did not work. My son is with the Army 3rd Infantry Mechanized Division. He is currently on the front line, so, sometimes my brain stops, along with my heart. Yes, Yes, Yes and Yes. I am so happy to hear from you. Their was a company from Colorado that contributed, and I was very ready to approach them again. Yes, I am still collecting. The Dane County Credit Union has stopped. I have connected with others here, the guard, and now I see a few other groups have began to organize to send. I share my volume items with these other groups. Yes Yes and any other ideas or suggestions you have, yes, most certainly. My name is Rose. My post office box is Soldier Support, PO Box 1765, Madison WI 53703-1765. I can also give you my work address if a post office address does not work. Many companies have been so generous, and send it to my work address, even on pallets. It is so amazing sometimes. I get my national guard contacts and we distribute as far as we can go. Thank you, let me know your ideas. Most Sincerely, Rose< then get in touch with > Stacey at: stacey612 > as she is the un-official > cooridinator for this > (although I'm quite sure that she would probably be > more than happy to accept > any help in that area that anyone would like to > offer. I work very long hours as a caregiver and with the exception of 1 and a half days a week I'm usually sleeping when I'm home! (I will reply to all emails, but please forgive me if it takes longer.) I'm also having a tough time quickly coming up with names of people, so if you have friends or family who've been deployed and they're still blessed with email could you please consider getting names of individual troops they know who may not be getting much from home? > ANYWAY, there are a couple of ways to do this, you > can either adopt your own > soldier, or you can adopt a ship. Stacey can give > you more information on > this. Yes, right now I'm trying to find out how to 'adopt' my boyfriend's ship the USS Valley Forge (a guided missile cruiser deployed with the Constellation battlegroup). We're out of contact at the moment, so I'm trying to figure out exactly what they need/want on board along with *how* to get it there while my boyfriend is temporarily away from the ship. Some of the guys aren't getting much or anything and right now I can imagine they all need a boost from home. (It sounded miserable their first week out and that was 5 months ago. Eek.) I know this is really scattered, but essentially there are lots of ways for those interested to help, and everything is much appreciated. Thanks again to everyone who's already written about this. I'll be emailing you ASAP! Take care, Stacey Platinum - Watch CBS' NCAA March Madness, live on your desktop! http://platinum.
